While Garmin has kept the Forerunner 965 running the same stable software throughout the summer, the company has been ironing out the kinks of a new major software revision. Specifically, it has been regularly issuing beta updates this summer, all under the banner of v20.xx, with 'xx' replaced by minor revisions like '21' or '23' this time around.
Although the company did not indicate that Beta Version 20.26 would be the final update in this beta period, it has now implicitly done so with the release of a new stable build. Incidentally, System Software 20.26 ships with different changes compared to Beta Version 20.26, despite featuring the same revision number as its beta counterpart. By our count, Garmin has included three new features, another three improvements and eight bug fixes.
On the one hand, System Software 20.26 introduces Garmin Share to the Forerunner 965 (curr. $499.99 on Amazon), which the company describes as providing the option to 'share your workouts, courses, and waypoints between compatible Garmin devices'. Additionally, the Forerunner 965 now supports the Garmin Run Coach within the Garmin Connect app and can backup or restore device settings as needed. On the other hand, System Software 20.26 is said to improve pool swim workouts, race time predictions and the pool swim rest screen, among other refinements from System Software 19.18.
