Edifier unveils Stax Spirit S10 wireless earbuds with planar magnetic drivers and active noise cancellation
Edifier has unveiled the Stax Spirit S10 wireless earbuds with planar magnetic drivers and active noise cancellation. Unlike conventional earbuds that use cone-shaped drivers, the S10 earbuds use flat, 8 μm-thick planar diaphragms to move air, resulting in lower distortion and higher-quality sound.
The planar drivers have a diameter of 12 mmwith a frequency range of20Hz to 40kHz. The flat planar diaphragm is 8 μm thick and attached to a substrate 2 μm thick. The drivers utilize second-generation EqualMass wiring to create a uniform magnetic field to drive the diaphragms uniformly. Each pair of S10 earbuds is phase-calibrated to ensure stereo sound reaches both ears at the same time.
The Stax earbuds utilize adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation and triple-microphoneAl environmental noise suppression to reduce background noise during calls and when listening to high-resolution music. The Stax Spirit S10 supports Bluetooth 5.4 multi-point connections with broad audio codec support, including the universal AAC and SBC codecs as well as the higher-quality aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, aptX Voice, LDAC, and LHDC 5.0 codecs. In game mode, latency drops to 89 ms.
The rechargeable battery has a runtime of 18 hours with ANC on and 28 hours with ANC off. The battery can be recharged in 15 minutes to provide two hours of runtime or fully charged in 1.5 hours. The earbuds automatically start playing music when worn and stop when removed.
The S10 earbuds weigh 1.98 ounces (56 g), and measurements were not provided upon inquiry. The earbuds are packaged with seven sizes of eartips in a box that measures 7.4 x 7.3 x 4.6 inches (18.7 x 18.5 x 11.7 cm) and weighs 21.2 ounces (600 g). The earbuds are IP54-rated for protection against dust intrusion and water splashes.
The Edifier Stax Spirit S10 earbuds have an MSRP of 39,880 yen (~$275) and are available here on Amazon Japan(coming soon to the Edifier store on Amazon US). Readers who want even better planar headphones to use with their multi-thousand dollar tube amps can try a pair of Audeze (like these on Amazon US).
