IKEA has announced it is bringing Matter support to many of its smart home products. This feature has been in beta testing for some time but is now rolling out to all users of the DIRIGERA hub. The update makes the hub a Matter bridge. This means that devices connected to the IKEA hub can integrate with many other smart home platforms, like Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Apple Home.
IKEA indicated that its Zigbee-based smart home products, which include various lights, air purifiers, speakers, sensors and remote controls, would support Matter through the DIRIGERA hub. The company confirmed that this feature would be available in all countries where the DIRGERA hub is sold, and the unit should update automatically. The release started on September 11th, though IKEA has not indicated when the rollout will be complete.
In the announcement, IKEA notes that this is its “first step in adopting Matter”, suggesting there is more to come. This Matter upgrade was also noted in the changelog for the latest version of the IKEA Home smart app. You can download IKEA Home smart version 1.36.0 from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.
