The Shine 2.0 is a portable wind turbine with a built-in battery that can also charge other portable power stations

While there is no shortage of portable solar panels that you can use to charge your devices when away from a power outlet, the disadvantage they all have is that they stop charging your devices once the weather is unfavorable or once its dark. However, with a portable wind turbine generator like Aurea Technologies' Shine 2.0, you can charge your devices all day and night long provided there's a strong enough breeze.

The name already says this is a second iteration, and it comes with some interesting upgrades over the first generation. Shaped like an elongated egg, the Shine 2.0 is a portable wind turbine with a built-in battery. Once set up, all it needs is wind speeds of at least 8mph/13kph for it to begin generating power that can be used to charge phones laptops, cameras, flashlights, and more via its USB-C PD port which has a max output of 75W. The USB-C port can also be used to charge the Shine 2.0 from a wall outlet.

The turbine can generate up to 50W of power with wind speeds reaching 28mph/45kph, but will drop to 5W if the wind speed is 8mph. At maximum wind speed, it can fully charge a laptop in 1 hour 58 minutes. The first version of the product could only generate 40W of power and had a 13W USB-A output port. When not charging a device, the Shine 2.0 will use generated power to charge its built-in 12,000mAh lithium-ion battery which you can then use to power your devices later.

Another feature of the second generation turbine generator is a Bluetooth connected app that allows users to monitor wind speed, power output, battery level, temperature, and charge time. Shine 2.0 also has support for charging portable power stations such as the Anker Solix C300 (curr. available on Amazon for $199). However, owners will have to purchase separately a USB-C to XT60 connector accessory that will plug into the power station. There's also an 8mm DC barrel connector if that's what your power station uses.

When not in use, the Shine 2.0 can be folded and tucked into a backpack. It is pretty lightweight at 3lbs (1.3kg) and is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance. It comes with a 3ft collapsible mount but buyers can also purchase a 6ft mount to reach higher wind speeds. It also comes with pegs and guy wires for securing it to the ground.

The Shine 2.0 is available on Kickstarter with a retail price tag of $571, but early birds can get it for as low as $358. However, it is not expected to begin shipping until March 2025 if everything goes well.
