The original PlayStation turns 30 years old today. To commemorate the occasion, Sony has announced a bunch of new goodies that call back to the iconic console. One even includes the yet-to-be-launched PlayStation 5 Pro. And in true Sony fashion, it comes with only a disk drive cover, forcing you to purchase the actual drive separately. Plus, Sony only plans to sell 12,300 of them globally, so you may have to fight scalpers to get one and relive PlayStation 5 launch era memories. Each PlayStation 5 Pro will have a serial number on it.
Sony is offering two bundles as a part of the celebration. The first one includes a PlayStation 5 Pro console, a DualSense Edge wireless controller, a vertical stand and a bag of goodies that include a USB-C connector modelled on the original PlayStation, PlayStation-themed paper-clips and zip ties. Next up, you have a regular PlayStation 5 Digital Edition paired with a DualSense controller and the same accessories found on the previous bundle.
Sony hasn't revealed how much either bundle will cost, but it won't be cheap. If you weren't able to snag a console, you can at least buy a DualSense/DualSense Elite by itself, and even a PlayStation Portal if it piques your interest. Aesthetically, Sony is leaning heavily on the original PlayStation's design, complete with its iconic grey colourway and a custom 30th anniversary logo (Triangle, 30, X, Square) plastered everywhere.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 Pro bundle, DualSense Elite, DualSense and PlayStation Portal kick off on September 26. For the PlayStation Digital Edition, you'll have to wait until October 10. Gamers with access to PlayStation Direct can order directly from Sony, while others have to contact their local retailers.
