Garmin has officially announced changes to Garmin Coach, available for some smartwatches and bike computers. Historically, the tool offered free training programs for runners, helping them to prepare for a race or reach a goal. Now Garmin is rolling out the feature for another activity with the Garmin Cycling Coach.
Like the original feature, the Garmin Cycling Coach suggests a training plan that intelligently adapts based on your performance and recovery data. You will be able to track your progress, and the tool predicts future performance based on your latest workouts as well as data from your planned route such as distance and elevation. The older tool has been renamed Garmin Run Coach, with the same features and choice of run coaches as before.
While not covered in the official announcement, the Garmin website also mentions a strength training plan. However, it is unclear whether or not this will be a third variant of the Garmin Coach released in the future. The Garmin Cycling Coach and Garmin Running Coach are available for users of various smartwatches including the Fenix 7 and the Forerunner 165; a complete list of compatible devices is below. You can set up a Garmin Coach training plan in Garmin Connect by going to More > Training & Planning > Garmin Coach Plans.
