A few months ago, HMD announced the HMD Aura, a budget smartphone that is sold in select markets including Australia and Kenya. Now, it seems it is ready to follow it up with a successor as the specs and render of a phone reported to be the HMD Aura 2 have surfaced on the web.
The details of the HMD Aura 2 were posted on X by the user @smashx_60 who has been sharing details about unreleased HMD phones for a while now. According to the post, the HMD Aura 2 will have a 6.56-inch LCD display like its predecessor. However, it will have a 90Hz refresh rate, an upgrade over the 60Hz refresh rate of the HMD Aura.
The Aura 2 will have two rear cameras - a 13MP primary sensor and a 0.8MP secondary camera. It will also have an 8MP front-facing camera, an upgrade over the 5MP sensor of the HMD Aura. Under the hood of the phoneis a UNISOC T603 processor which is more powerful than the UNISOC SC9863A1 inside its predecessor. The chipset will be paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.
The phone will have a MicroSD card slot for adding more storage, an audio jack, a USB-C port, OTG support, and an IP52 dust and water resistance rating. According to the source, the HMD Aura 2 will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, ditching the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner of its predecessor. It will also have a 5,000mAh battery.
When it launches, it will be available in Cyan and Meteor Grey. Unfortunately, details about when the HMD Aura 2 will launch, how much it will cost, and availability were not revealed by the source. The HMD Aura launched in Kenya for KES 13,000 (~$100), so there's a chance the HMD Aura 2 may cost slightly higher due to its upgraded features.
