Google Photos gets AI-powered presets and new editing tools

The video editing features present in Google Photos have just received an infusion of AI-backed features, and these changes will improve the user experience for those who use the Photos app on both Android and iOS. However, it might take a while for the changes to roll out, so if they are not present yet at this moment, the best thing to do is update the app (if not already updated), try again, and maybe wait for a few more days.

The list of changes that are coming to Android devices includes an updated trim tool, a new Auto enhance button, as well as a new Speed tool. The favorite tools are now placed front and center. Coming to both iOS and Android, the video presets backed by AI allow automatic trimming of the videos, as well as single-tap lighting adjustment and speed control, not to mention the advanced effects such as subject-focused dynamic motion tracking or turning entire videos/sequences into slow-motion videos/sequences.

The video editing tools mentioned above can be found in a new tab, which is labeled Presets and is located under the video timeline. Since Google Photos is also available for Wear OS and via the web, those versions might get some AI goodies in the coming weeks as well, but Google has not mentioned anything about such a thing in the post regarding the changes mentioned above.

Those getting started with Google Photos might want to check out James Bernstein's Google Photos Made Easy: Preserving and Sharing Your Memories, which is free with Kindle Unlimited ($8.99 to buy), $13.99 in paperback form, and $19.99 when choosing the hardcover version.
