Coros announces substantial September smartwatch update with new features

Coros has announced its September 2024 update, bringing a wide range of new and updated features to its smartwatches. These include Gear Tracking, an app-based tool which allows you to track the mileage of your bike or trainers, helping users gauge when these might need maintenance or to be replaced.

Sleep Tracking has been updated so that it now monitors sleep at any time of day. This should be useful for shift workers, or nappers who can set-up a Timed Nap. Plus, a sleep quality metric has been added, showing how your sleep was split across various stages like REM. Coros has also introduced drill and interval modes for pool swimmers to improve the accuracy of activity tracking, and the running fitness test has been enhanced.

There are four new activity data fields: % FTP (cycling activities only), % Max HR, % Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) and % Lactate Threshold HR. On top of this, cyclists can now track Gravel Bike and Mountain Bike activities, and you can overlay data such as elevation, speed and GPS on your Insta360 video. While all of these features will arrive for most models, including the Coros Pace 3, only some will be available for the Pace 2, Vertix 1 and Apex Pro (see chart below). A public beta for the release has already started, with a wider rollout planned for October.
