GPD announces release date and new cheaper 32 GB RAM variant for innovative AMD convertible laptop

GPD has finally committed to a release day for the Duo, almost two months of its previous launch promise. To recap, the company initially claimed that it would release the device in August. Unfortunately, that window came and went without GPD revealing any reasons for the delay.

In fact, the GPD Duo will be a whole season late. Specifically, GPD has now confirmed that it will launch the dual OLED-based device on October 8. As expected, the device will arrive on Indiegogo first, where it will go live at 02:00 UTC. Please note that GPD's chosen release method also means that the Duo will likely not ship until late autumn or early winter at the earliest.

Moreover, GPD has now added a fourth memory option, too. Previously, the company stated that configuring the machine with 32 GB of RAM also required choosing a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU. However, this will no longer be a requirement. Instead, it will be possible to order the Duo with a Ryzen 7 8840U, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD for $1,380 through Indiegogo, which represents a $100 surcharge over the device's entry-level SKU. For reference, pricing for GPD's revised SKUs are as follows:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD - $1,270 early bird ($1,425 MSRP)
  • AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD - $1,380 early bird ($1,516 MSRP)
  • AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD - $1,650 early bird ($1,790 MSRP)
  • AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD - $1,860 early bird ($1,971 MSRP)
