Alongside the Quest 3S announcement, Meta has announced that the Quest 3 will be getting a permanent price cut, specifically the 512GB version. It has also revealed that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro will be discontinued.
The Meta Quest 3 was announced in June 2023 but was released in October of the same year. When it launched, it was available in two storage options - 128GB with a price of $499.99 and a 512GB version that sold for $649.99. Now, Meta says the 512GB version is getting a permanent price cut and will now sell for $499.99 going forward. That is 23% off its launch price.
If you guessed that the 128GB version will also get a price cut, you are correct. Meta has dropped the price from $499.99 to $429.99 which is small but makes sense since Meta says it will be phasing it out. Considering you are getting four times the storage for $70 extra, the 512GB version is a no-brainer.
In addition to a price cut, Meta is also offering all family purchases of the Quest 3 from now until April 2025 with the upcoming VR game, Batman: Arkham Shadows, and three months of Meta Quest .
According to Meta, the Quest 3 will be getting new features in the future such as support for Travel Mode to work on trains, support to use the headset will lying down, and the ability for offline downloads for apps such as Prime Video.
While the Quest 3 is getting a price cut, Meta has also revealed it will discontinue the Quest 2 and Quest Pro released in 2020 and 2022 respectively. It will still continue to sell both headsets until the end of the year or until it runs out of stock, whichever comes first. However, accessories will continue to be available for a but longer.
