Sony has presented its first LinkBuds speaker, which it has called the 'LinkBuds Portable Wireless Speaker'. For reference, the speaker has been presented alongside the LinkBuds Fit and LinkBuds Open; please see our corresponding launch article for more details on these new earbuds.
As for the LinkBuds Portable Wireless Speaker, Sony claims that it should last up to 25 hours between charges. However, it also comes with a charging station that effectively converts it into a wired speaker. Additionally, the LinkBuds speaker is IPX4-certified against water ingress. Please note that 'X' in this case means that Sony has not certified the speaker against particle ingress.
As the video below shows, the LinkBuds Portable Wireless Speaker has a tweeter and an X-Balanced woofer, all within a 110 x 84 x 90 mm housing that weighs 520 g. Moreover, the speaker can be operated in a stereo pair, just like Bose's new SoundLink speaker. Incidentally, the first LinkBuds speaker is compatible with Sony's Sound Connect app. Currently, the LinkBuds Portable Wireless Speaker is orderable from Sony directly or Amazon for $179.99 in black and white colour options. Please see Sony's website for more details.
