A rare 50p coin featuring King Charles III's coronation design is being sold on eBay for up to £2,500.

The coin, which has been listed by a seller in Ellesmere Port, was first minted in August last year following the coronation in May and a total of just 5 million were produced.

It was the second set of coins to feature the King’s head, the first coming in December 2022, and includes an image of Westminster Abbey and the King's insignia beneath a crown on the reverse side.

In the description, the seller says: “This rare 50p coin of King Charles III, featuring his coronation design, is a must-have for any serious coin collector.

The Royal Mint said at the time of the announcement that the coins would be popular with those keen to own a piece of British history.

There are thought to be around 27 billion coins currently in circulation in the UK, meaning this rare example makes up less than 2 percent of that total.
