Beadle & Grimm's Mana Token Sets: Everything We Know

Beadle & Grimm’s is back with a new accessory offering for spirited MTG players. Renowned for offering high-end tokens, dice, and more aimed at enriching your MTG experience, Beadle & Grimm’s latest offering actually solves a big problem for a specialized audience. Unfortunately, it is also relatively expensive.

Keeping track of mana in decks that generate a ton of it can be complicated. Thanks to competitive tournament rules, using dice to keep track of any sort of value is strictly prohibited. All it takes is one accidental shift, and your dice are on the floor. The mana, Energy, Storm, or whatever value you were keeping track of is lost. For this reason, it is commonly requested for players to keep track of these counts on paper, but if only one player is keeping track of these values, it’s easy for communication across the table to become difficult.

We’re not sure if the new Beadle & Grimm’s life counter, which can be repurposed as a mana counter in their new Mana Token Sets will be tournament-legal, but they certainly look amazing. Offered alongside some new dice and tokens, this could be exactly what some specific MTG players are looking for.

Working with artist Justine Jones, Beadle & Grimm’s created a curated collection of tokens and counters contained in a tin. Five different Mana Token Sets will be available, each matching one of the five available colors in Magic. Each set comes with a life counter that can also function as a mana counter, ten different metal tokens, keyword counters, a small dice set, and buff counters that can track temporary changes to stats using effects inside the game. You can check all of that out here.

Each tin contains contents that are tailored for the color of choice. For example, the blue kit contains a Hexproof keyword counter, while the black one contains a Deathtouch one. The same goes for counters that keep track of temporary buffs, as well as the metal tokens in each kit.

If you’re interested in acquiring these kits for yourself, they will be available at Magic Con Vegas and on Beadle & Grimm’s official website. According to Daily MTG, each kit costs about $55 USD, which is admittedly rather expensive.

In past Beadle & Grimm’s products, an exclusive MTG promo card has occasionally been offered. While these have not been mechanically unique products, they are rare reprints that some collectors become incredibly excited about. It does not appear that a promo card is being offered with this product.

Considering how expensive each tin is, a promotional card could certainly help entice players to purchase the product. While the tin is certainly on the most expensive side, especially for accessories that you don’t necessarily need to play Magic, the pieces are rather beautiful and should have a satisfying weight to them that should help you express yourself in any game of Magic.

This product certainly isn’t for everyone, but if this collaboration with Beadle & Grimm’s, as well as Justine Jones is something you’re interested in, be sure to snatch it up quickly. Beadle & Grimm’s commonly drops something for each core MTG release, but that product is always limited in quantity.

There aren’t many MTG players talking about this Beadle & Grimm’s drop, which may suggest that excitement for the product is not great. Reacting to the reveal of this product on Daily MTG, however, a lot of players did not agree with the price of the product

“Bet those are gonna fly off the shelf….._eye roll_”

“$55 is such a predictably stupid amount”

“$55 for tokens and counters is rough”

At the end of the day, these are just add-ons that you can use to enhance your game, but you do not need them to play the game itself. For tokens and add-ons, $55 is quite an expensive ask. Heck, you could buy an entire MTG Commander Precon for less and play the game outright. As pretty as these tokens and counters are, the steep cost will likely push a lot of MTG players away.

Despite the steep cost, the tokens and artwork used to create these tins are indeed beautiful, and they will fit a portion of the MTG clientele without question.
