Brits have been given the chance to secure a small fortune in their advent calendar this Christmas
Hidden inside one particular countdown to the big day will be a one of a kind hidden coin, worth a whopping £1,355.
Brits could be in for a festive windfall after The Royal Mint hid a solid gold coin worth £1,355 in one of its advent calendars.
The coin will be concealed behind door 24 in one of the calendars, making it the perfect Christmas Eve memento.
Priced at £30, the advent calendars are available to buy on The Royal Mint website and feature a limited edition festive book and film design, such as The Snowman.
Each calendar includes a special edition 50p coin in the theme of the advent calendar, with the coins being coloured and unique to the calendars.
However, instead of a coloured 50p, one of the calendars will contain a solid gold coin, which is worth £1,355 on the open market.
The gold coin is available to buy separately on The Royal Mint website for £1,355, with only 100 for sale.
But if you manage to find the gold coin in your advent calendar, you could sell it at auction and attract much higher bids.
Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: “The Snowman collectable 50p has become a Christmas tradition at the Royal Mint, and we are delighted to continue this much-loved story on UK coinage.
“This year marks The Snowman’s seventh appearance on a 50p, and Robin Shaw’s special design expertly captures the magic of Christmas.”
Shaw said: “It’s an honour to see one of my designs appear once again on a 50 pence piece.
“This year’s Snowman coin captures the magic of Raymond Briggs’ most enduring creation while celebrating The Snowman’s latest adventure on UK coins.”
The new coin celebrates Briggs’ picture book, which was first published in 1978 and has since sold 5.5 million copies worldwide.
The book inspired an animated short film that was first broadcast on Channel 4 on Boxing Day, 1982.
