Billy Markus, the Creator of Dogecoin, Has Had an Interesting Year Despite Selling All His DOGE in 2015

Dogecoin creator Billy Markus, better known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, has had an interesting year with his proceeds from the recently given tokens.

The same Dogecoin holdings, which he famously sold for $10,000 to buy a car in 2015, would now be valued at over $9 million and peaked at over $45 million.

Despite selling his DOGE years ago, Billy Markus has remained engaged in the cryptocurrency scene. Over the past 12 months, he has created several wallets to accept tips in various tokens.

Markus has been able to make a good living by selling these tokens. In 2024 alone, Markus is said to have made around $780,000 by selling tokens that were gifted to him for free.

This is just one of the several token sales he has made this year; the others occurred a few days ago. Despite selling his initial DOGE holdings, Markus’ knack for converting free tokens into actual profits shows how he has managed to continue profiting from the cryptocurrency space.

Markus may be grinning all the way to the bank as he continues to receive free tokens in his wallet and sells them, even though the value of Dogecoin has skyrocketed.

While some may have thought Markus lost out on a fortune during the initial Dogecoin sale, his continuous earnings from selling gifted tokens show he wasn’t out of the picture entirely.

In fact, with his earnings of nearly $780,000 this year alone, it seems Markus can still easily afford a new car—and maybe a lot more!
