Shop Named 10 Cent Pancake Sells Local Version Of Viral Korean Coin Snack At $5 Each
Not long ago, videos of the viral Korean 10 won cheese coin pancake and Japanese 10 yen pancake were everywhere on social media. These popular coin-shaped snacks are sold as street food overseas, usually stuffed with stretchy mozzarella cheese. Now, Singapore has its very own version, in the shape of our 10-cent coin.
A new shop in Tanjong Pagar Plaza is selling a local version of the viral Korean 10 won cheese coin pancake, and it costs $5 each.
The edible coin, which is slightly bigger than the average guy's palm, is stuffed with a block of mozzarella cheese for a satisfying cheese pull.
Videos of the Korean 10 won cheese coin pancake and Japanese 10 yen pancake went viral on social media last year, showing these coin-shaped snacks being sold as street food overseas, usually stuffed with stretchy mozzarella cheese.
Now, Singapore has its very own version, in the shape of our 10-cent coin. The localised coin pancakes can be found at the rather ironically named 10 Cent Pancake, a cute takeaway kiosk at Tanjong Pagar Plaza. It appears to be Singapore's first standalone shop specialising exclusively in this treat.
Compared to the OGs sold in Korea and Japan, 10 Cent Pancake’s version appears nearly identical in size. Each pancake is slightly bigger than the average guy's palm, and contains a block of mozzarella cheese filling for a satisfying cheese pull.
We asked our 8 Days colleagues who've tried it to tell us if it's worth the $5.
“That amount can purchase a meal already”
Our 8days.sg senior entertainment editor has gone back to the shop for thirds. He says: “Not only did I buy the pancake [after first coming across it], I’ve bought it twice more since. I like how the pancake itself tastes and it’s not cloyingly sweet, so I don’t think $5 is too steep. Also, it’s not like I’m having it every day”.
On the other extreme end, another 8days.sg editor says she wouldn't even try it because of the price alone. “I was curious to try it, but would never pay $5 for a snack. That amount can purchase a meal already,” she explains.
Besides cheese, 10 Cent Pancake also offers Biscoff filling, which is not typical of coin pancakes sold in Japan and Korea (they offer other options like custard and red bean instead).
The Biscoff stuffing here is mixed with mozzarella for $6.50, but you can opt for pure Biscoff filling for $5.
Wash your snack down with drinks like Black Coffee and Iced House Tea for $5, or White Coffee and Oat White Coffee for $6.
10 Cent Pancake is at #01-20 Tanjong Pagar Plaza, 1 Tanjong Pagar, S082001. Open Mon, Wed - Fri 10am - 7pm; Sat - Sun 11am - 6pm. Closed on Tue. More info via Instagram.
