The Sims 4: Life & Death introduces a host of new features to the game, one of which is a new aspiration. The Ghost Historian aspiration draws on the new Thanatology skill as well as the writing skill. You'll explore some of the secrets of Ravenwood and earn some rewards in the process.

Ghost Historian is the first aspiration to reward a new ability for Sims. Completing the quest chain will allow your Sim to write a new genre of novel, horror. So, if you want to catalogue the creepy goings-on in Ravenwood as a bestseller, then look no further.

Ghost Historian Aspiration Guide

The Ghost Historian aspiration comes with Life & Death, and to complete it you'll need to spend time exploring some of the new features of the pack.

You'll find the Ghost Historian Aspiration under the Knowledge category towards the bottom of the list. It's a four-part aspiration which focuses on building the new thanatology skill, alongside the writing skill. You'll also need to explore the crypts in Ravenwood and make contact with a mysterious resident to meet all the criteria.

If your Sim already has the writing skill at level 7 or above it will be a big boost in this aspiration, since this is the lengthiest requirement.

Reward: Write Horror Novels

After completing the third level of the aspiration, which involves achieving level 7 writing skill, you'll unlock the ability for your Sim to write horror books from the 'write' menu on any computer. This new genre of book will be available only for Sims who Achieve this level of the Ghost Historian aspiration.

Reward: Ghost Whisperer Trait

The Ghost Whisperer trait will allow your Sim to speak more in depth about all things eerie and macabre. They will unlock new social interactions relating to their spooky discoveries and any published horror works.

Ghost Whisperer Sims will also make friends more easily with ghosts and will seek them out, be it at home or work. They'll also gain positive buffs from being around ghosts, crows, and even Grim himself.

This trait is a huge boost if you are a macabre Sim or looking into entering the Reaper or Undertaker career. Being more comfortable around ghosts will also benefit residents of the Mourningvale neighbourhood in particular, which has a thin veil between life and the afterlife and hosts festivals and events well attended by ghosts.

All Aspiration Levels And Tasks

There are four levels to the aspiration. It's not especially challenging, but it is quite lengthy and repetitive in places with two skills to level, writing and thanatology, and a couple of other tasks being repeated.

Despite the blandness, if you are prepared to put the time (or cheat codes) into levelling the writing skill, the rest is easy to do during your everyday life in Ravenwood, and the reward trait makes interacting with ghost Sims much easier.

Befriend a Ghost	Befriend a Ghost	You can find ghosts all over Ravenwood, but they are most easily found dancing by the clock tower in Mourningvale, playing chess in the Crow's Crossing park, or drinking in The Final Draught in Whispering Glen. You can also pay a visit to the Afterlife Anonymous festival.
	Achieve Level 2 Thanatology SKill	Thanatology can be levelled by researching theories on a PC, reading a skill book or performing social interactions to ask residents about the local area's stories.
	Achieve Level 2 Writing Skill	Levelling the writing skill requires you to own a PC. From here you can find the write option and then practice writing or choose to write different kinds of content to level your skill.
Writer Among Wraiths	Befriend Another Ghost	Once again, this is easy enough in Ravenwood. If you are in the Reaper career, you may already have done this while talking to ghostly colleagues during your shifts since socialising with them is a daily task.
	Find a Rare Item in a Crypt	Every neighbourhood has at least one crypt in the area. You can also find two in the Eternal Hollow Cemetary in Crow's Crossing. Click on the crypt and choose 'Explore the Underground Crypts' This will start a text adventure, during which you can find rare items.
	Achieve Level 3 Thanatology Skill	This is the same as before. Keep reading and researching, either the theories online or the skill books.
	Achieve Level 3 Writing Skill	As above, just keep working on the writing skill.
Phantasmal Fantasy	Find a Rare Item in a Crypt	Once more, you must venture into the underground crypts in search of rare treasures.
	Make Contact with Edith	The easiest way to make successful contact with Edith is to complete Alice's quest chain. However, you can just approach Edith at the well of longing and regret by the house in Crow's Crossing and select 'attempt to communicate.' You do not have to be able to initiate a conversation to get the reward for this goal.
	Achieve Level 7 Writing Skill	This is the hardest and most time-consuming element of the aspiration. However, completing this third level unlocks the ability to write horror novels.
Spectrally Spectacular	Write a Horror Book	Upon completion of the previous aspiration level 'write horror book' will unlock in the write menu. You'll need to write three horror books to complete this goal.
	Earn Royalties from Publishing Books	You'll need to earn $2000 from royalties, but with three horror novels under your belt, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Tips For Completing The Ghostly Historian Aspiration

Here are a few quick tips for completing the Ghostly Historian aspiration.

• Macabre Sims have an easier time here, since they will be less negatively affected by exploring crypts and meeting ghosts. They will also gain boosts while engaging in some of the goals.
• Traits which boost skill gain, either Sim traits or lot traits, can help minimise the writing skill grind.
• Make sure to take breaks from writing as low needs affect the speed at which skills are gained as well as the quality of work.
• Writing while inspired increases the quality of your work, and in turn your royalities.
• If you write novels while levelling your writing skill, don't publish them straight away. You can save these and mass publish them once you hit level four, so all royalties go towards the final goal.
• If you choose 'write the perfect goal' followed by 'I want to be creative' you can choose 'write the greatest book ever' which requires writing a novel when at writing level 10 and then declaring it your life's finest work. Doing both the aspiration and this goal makes a lot of sense due to the time sink of levelling skills.
