The Sims 4: Life & Death introduces a new skill, Thanatology, which is the study of death and dying. It also includes studying grief and different ways of dealing with death. Your Sims can learn this skill through different means.
Sims studying Thanatology will fit right in when exploring Ravenwood and all the secrets it contains. They can even start speaking in a dead language, something morbid Sims in particular will enjoy.
The Thanatology Skill sees Sims exploring the secrets of death through studying ancient historical lore, uncovering mysteries and researching the veil between life and death.
This is a five-stage skill which Sims will need to complete the Ghost Historian Aspiration and which can also help in Ravenwood's new careers.
Tomes expire quickly: The first tome only increases skill from level one up to level two, the second increases through levels two and three, and the third through levels four and five.
Thanatology is mostly useful if you are entering into one of the new careers, reaping and undertaking, or if you want to deep dive into the lore of Ravenwood.
It also allows you to have more in depth conversations with Grim, so those looking to Woohoo the reaper may also want to level this skill. Here are all the perks.

Voodoo was already in the game, but this skill just adds the ability to unlock it faster. The main benefits here are the extra options in the mortuary career, and the increased social interactions. For morbid Sims, or those Close to Grim, these can add a lot of depth to a conversation. As for toying with death, go play with the reaper and see what happens.
