According to multiple reports, a UK court has filed contempt of court charges against Wright. The filing is based on Wright’s £911 million ($1.1 billion) complaint
Craig Wright, who has been discredited for claiming to be the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, now faces contempt of court charges in the UK. According to multiple reports, the charges stem from Wright's £911 million ($1.1 billion) complaint against Block's Square Up Europe Limited.
The charge marks the latest development in the Craig Wright saga, which began when Wright asserted to be “the real Satoshi Nakamoto” in a statement that captivated the crypto community. However, the High Court of England and Wales swiftly dismissed Wright's claims.
The court then proceeded to issue an injunction against Wright, effectively prohibiting him from pursuing any further legal action against the BTC developers. Despite this order, Wright filed a lawsuit against the developers, prompting the court to respond by charging him with contempt of court penalties.
Wright's Lawsuit Breaches Latest Court Injunction
Following the UK court's rejection of his claims to be Satoshi, Wright filed a new complaint. Once more, he targeted the Bitcoin core developers, alleging that the team had falsely represented the BTC as the original Bitcoin and that the genuine version was, in fact, the BSV.
The Block and the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) quickly filed a response, arguing that Wright's latest complaint violated the injunction. At today's court hearing, Block and COPA's contempt application was being considered by Wright.
There was also a heated discussion over whether or not Wright should be physically present in court. Wright stated that he is autistic and requested to be permitted to attend the hearing virtually. The court, in turn, requested that Wright submit further documentation attesting to his condition.
But Who Exactly Is Satoshi Nakamoto?
For years, the crypto community has been captivated by the narrative and enigma surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto. Several individuals have come forward claiming to be the developer of Bitcoin, including Craig Wright. However, the High Court of England shot down Wright's argument, adding that he had lied and falsified public documents.
In a statement, the presiding judge noted that Wright had portrayed himself as intelligent; however, during the court proceedings, he lied extensively, the judge added.
Immediately following the decision, a legal notice was added to Wright's website, stating that he is not, in fact, the real Satoshi Nakamoto.
“Real Satoshi” Faces Potential Legal Woes
In addition to Wright, a select few have been named as the "real Satoshi." For instance, in October of last year, HBO aired a documentary that purportedly unveiled Peter Todd as the true father of Bitcoin. Earlier, claims by HBO sparked safety worries for Todd, who ultimately refuted the documentary's assertion.
