Loyal Friends is a quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Arlathan Forest that involves rescuing some Veil Jumpers who have not reported back for duty after exploring the Blight around the forest. The name refers to the trio involved in the quest, rather than them being friends of Bellara - despite the setting, Bellara is not particularly linked to this one, and thus is not required.
The quest itself is relatively straight forward - go to the locations, fight the darkspawn, discover the truth. You know how Dragon Age works. However, because of the Blight, getting around Arlathan Forest is extremely tricky, and thus you might be having problems starting the quest rather than finishing.
Since you will fight Darkspawn, Taash or Davrin should come on this quest.
When you head to the quest marker for Loyal Friends, you will find yourself trapped by unclimbable walls. Going up and around the back of the quest marker from the high ground will see the entrance blocked by a hardened Blight Boil that cannot be burst yet. So it looks like you're stuck. More confusingly, the bridge directly opposite this Blight Boil has a magic puzzle at the far end - this is unrelated to the quest and can be ignored.
Instead, go to the broken bridge overlooking the area. To get to it, go around the quest marker to the higher ground and that Blight Boil blocking your way. Go right up the stairs and along the bridge. At the end of the bridge, there is a ladder. Go down, and walk around the ledge until you see a brick wall. Attack the barrels next to the wall, they explode, and you can now enter the area where Loyal Friends begins.
Inside this new area, attack the large Blight Boil to reveal a cove with a note from Oros. You then need to destroy the remaining Blight Boils.
In front of this Boil to the right is a passage with a red glow. Behind the open doors is another Blight Boil. Turn around, and go behind the large golden hands, where you will see two rocky steps. Climb up these, onto the stone being held by the hand, and across to the next Boil.
Here, you can aim at the Boil on the wall by the doors to burst the next one. Finally, jump down and head through the passage in front of you (go past the door, not through it) to another large Blight Boil that can be attacked to clear a path.
Unfortunately, this new area reveals that you are too late - Taymore has been Blighted. There is no way to avoid this, even if the quest is done immediately; it is scripted rather than timed. Taymore is a Darkspawn Emissary, which means she is Vulnerable to Fire, as well as Resistant to Necrotic. She also summons a Hurlock, who shares this Vulnerability and Resistance.
Like all Emissaries, Taymore is extremely annoying. She casts Blighted vines across the very cramped island, causing damage wherever you go. Attack from range early to destroy her Barrier, as the longer the fight goes on the tougher it will be to stand in place and aim. Abilities that can Burn her, trap her in place, or combo to Detonate will stop her moving freely and making this battle harder than it needs to be.
As for the Hurlock, it should be hit with charged Heavy attacks until its Armor is gone, then hit with Fire Abilities. When its axe glows yellow, you can deflect it to open up a window for major damage.
After both enemies fall, head around the back of the large rock on the island to discover Gus is not really a Veil Jumper at all. After the brief cutscene, you will get 500 XP, a Nug Carving, and 100 Veil Jumpers strength.
