Building a Casino Game with NPCs from

Introduction

Welcome to my blog post about the Casino Game Project I developed as part of a Codecademy course. This project combines the excitement of casino games with the intrigue of NPCs inspired by characters from the TV show "Lost". In this post, I'll walk you through the features, development process, and how you can try it out yourself.

Project Overview

The Casino Game Project is a Python-based game that includes popular casino games such as Blackjack and Roulette. What makes this project unique is the inclusion of NPCs inspired by characters from "Lost", adding an extra layer of fun.

Features

  • Play Blackjack and Roulette: Enjoy two classic casino games with realistic mechanics and rules.
  • NPCs: Inspired by "Lost" characters join games and play.
  • ASCII Art: Experience the game with visually appealing ASCII art representations of game elements.

Development Process

The development process involved several key steps:

  1. Designing the Game Mechanics: Implementing the rules and logic for Blackjack and Roulette.
  2. Creating NPCs: Designing NPCs based on "Lost" characters and integrating them into the game.
  3. User Interface: Using ASCII art to create a simple yet engaging user interface.
  4. Testing and Debugging: Ensuring the game runs smoothly and fixing any issues that arose during development.(always an ongoing process)

Installation

To run the game locally, follow these steps:

  1. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/DigitalDruid10010110/casino.git

    Copy after login
  2. Navigate to the project directory:

    cd casino

    Copy after login
  3. Create a virtual environment:

    python3 -m venv venv

    Copy after login
  4. Activate the virtual environment:

    • On Windows:

      venv\Scripts\activate

      Copy after login
- On macOS/Linux:
Copy after login
    ```bash
    source venv/bin/activate
    ```
Copy after login
  1. Install the required dependencies:

    pip install -r requirements.txt

    Copy after login

Usage

To start the game, run the following command:

python lost_casino.py
Copy after login

Follow the on-screen instructions to play the game. You can choose to play Blackjack or Roulette and interact with NPCs.

GitHub Repository

You can find the complete source code for the Casino Game Project on my GitHub repository: Casino Game Project

Conclusion

Developing the Casino Game Project was an exciting and educational experience. Combining coding skills with creativity, I was able to create a fun and engaging game. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed developing it! Although I have decided to put the project on the shelf for now please let me know if you find any bugs or if you have any suggestions for further content.
