Luma Island: How To Upgrade Your Tools

In any crafting, survival, or RPG game, you'll want to upgrade your equipment more often than not, and it's the same in Luma Island. You'll get a set of seven basic tools after the tutorial, including your standard Axe and Pickaxe, and all but two of them can be upgraded at the local anvil.

You'll be breaking down and harvesting a lot of different materials in the game for all your recipes, and it'll get annoying if you stick with the basic, slow equipment you have at the start. The more you upgrade, the quicker you can farm up all that wood, stone, ore, and everything else.

As Luma Island is in Early Access on Steam, the information below may be subject to change and will be updated as needed.

How To Upgrade Tools

To upgrade your tools, you'll need to have completed the tutorial, and it requires Gold, a handful of basic materials, a specific Spirit type depending on the tool, and, most importantly, Tool Tokens.

Each upgrade level needs a certain amount of Tool Tokens, and these can generally be found by breaking Old Barrels, Old Crates, and Old Vases whenever you find them, as well as opening treasure chests.

The best place to farm for Tool Tokens early in the game is the Ancient Farm Temple, located to the right of the entrance to town.

When you've got the materials, head into town and to Sylvia's Anvil, which is on the outskirts of town, right next to Balthazar's Shop and the entrance to your farm.

Select the arrow on each Tool's row to advance their upgrade by level by one, and you'll have your newly upgraded tool.

• For your Axe and Pickaxe, the damage you do to harvestables is boosted, and your chance to get rarer drops goes up.
• For the Fishing Rod, the speed that your rod moves will be increased, as well as how easily you can keep up with a fish, the chance to get rarer fish, and how quickly you catch fish.
• For the Whip, the damage you do to enemies is boosted, and the drop chance for monster materials is increased.
• For the Hoe, the number of Earth Spirits you receive is increased.

The Luck stat also increases your chance of getting an additional drop from anything you harvest with a particular tool.
