Each area in Brighter Shores introduces a variety of new quests for you to complete, as well as a main quest that you can make your way through in order to Progress forward in the story. Once you make your way to Hopeforest, you'll be able to complete Nullify the Corruption.
In this guide, we are going to go over how to fully complete Nullify the Corruption. This will cover every step along the way. Before diving in, it's important to note that much like every other aspect of Brighter Shores, completing this quest will take a bit of grinding of the Hopeforest professions.
Brighter Shores is currently in Early Access on Steam and, as such, the content is subject to change. We will update these articles as required.
When you first enter Hopeforest, you'll be sent on an exploration journey by Corporal Binns. From the forest clearing, you'll want to head east until you come to the Central Crossroads, which branches off in four directions.
You'll be guided on where to go through the quest, but from here, head north to the North Central Path and take the only pathway branching off on the left side. This will take you to the Secluded Junction. Go straight west through here to the Secluded Path, then take the south exit.
At this point, you'll be in the Dryad Glade with the Dryad herself and a mutant stag. While she doesn't outright tell you what to do, you'll need to defeat the mutant stag.
If you've just arrived in Hopeforest and start this quest relatively early, then you won't be able to take down the mutant stag without a bit of grinding. Thankfully, it's only level ten, so you should be able to grind a few levels in a short amount of time for the Scout profession. This is the forest equivalent of the Guard profession from Hopeport.
You don't have to be level ten in order to defeat the stag, but be sure to have good gear and a few HP potions if you are underleveled.
We suggest defeating Outlaws and Goblins in the Forest Clearing and Goblin Camp (south of the Forest Path) to level up your Scout profession.
When you feel like you're strong enough, head back to the Dryad Glade and defeat the mutant stag!
At this point, the Dryad will direct you north to find the Magic Cave, but you'll need to follow the path that swings to the right first. From the Dryad Glade, head back to the North Central Path and proceed north to the Stump Clearing.
This area branches off in six directions; you'll want to take the bottom path on the left side into a small area called the Tangled Path. Proceed through here until you get to the Tangled Path, and then head north. From here, just continue going north until you get to the Thin Trail.
You'll see the Irises that the Dryad mentioned; use your leaf here to summon her. After a conversation, you'll be able to enter the Magic Cave.
Inside the Magic Cave is where you'll pick your class! You can choose from the following three options.
All three classes balance out (similar to rock-paper-scissors), so the one you pick really comes down to personal preference. Here at TheGamer, we chose Guardian, which is done by entering the green pool next to the Dryad.
After you've picked your class, it's time to move on to the next step.
The source of the corruption is in the Crystal Clearing, which lies on the far east side of the map.
There are two ways to get here, with one of them requiring you to be level eight in the Woodcutter profession. This is eventually required in order to progress, but for now, you can take a detour to avoid this requirement. We suggest leveling the profession so you don't have to do it later.
If you are a level eight Woodcutter, you'll simply need to go back to the Tangled Lane and just continue going east. You'll pass back through the Stump Clearing and into the Stumped Path. Further east is the Shortcut, where you'll be tasked with cutting down brambles.
Once through, head east once more through the Twisted Junction and Overgrown Trail. The Crystal Clearing is the final area in this direction.
Without Woodcutting leveled, you will need to head back to the Stump Clearing and take the rightmost path at the top of the area to the Treeway Junction. From here, head east to the Treeway Trail and continue straight to the east.
This will lead to the Twisted Road, where hostile Shades can be found. Take this path that curves to the south into the Twisted Junction (where more Shades are), and then head into the Overgrown Trail.
After you make it here, you'll need to fight Jermais, who is level 12. This fight is relatively easy; we were still level ten and managed to take him down. After, the Dryad will guide you to some beetles that may be used to nullify the corruption.
Although she says to follow her, you'll just be going into the Overgrown Trail that connects to the Crystal Clearing. Here, gather the two beetles and then return to the clearing to use them on the crystal. This doesn't work, so she'll instead give you three vague directions on where magic is, which you can find below.
Some magic is....
This is the easiest location of the three, but you will need to be a level Eight Woodcutter. Once you reach this level, just take the southern path from the Overgrown Trail into the Bramble Pass. Here, you'll need to cut down the brambles.
Once you've done with, head south into the Mushroom Grove and gather the mushroom
This bear is a level 20 boss enemy. We highly recommend being at least level 19 before taking it on! Additionally, bring a handful of HP potions to help you get through the fight.
Now, you'll need to head to the Two Headed Bear Clearing. This is to the left of the Magic Cave, where you picked your class. From the Tangled Lane, head west until you reach the Bear Clearing. Here, take the north path across a bridge, where you can see the bear.
This bear will use normal melee attacks and big AoE attacks. These larger attacks are telegraphed on the ground, so just avoid these. While the bridge may look like a safe place to stand, we suggest running out into the clearing fully. The bear can easily corner you, and the AoE attacks will still hit you on the bridge.
After the bear is defeated, gather the honey it was guarding and then leave.
Lastly, you'll need to repair the Hopeforest Ferry. To get here, take the only path on the right side of Timberwell Green to the Mine Road West. In this area, head south to the Tree Lined Trail. At this point, south is the only way you can go, so just keep doing so until you reach the river.
At the ferry, you'll need to speak to the ferryman who will tell you that his boat can be repaired with four ash planks. To make ash planks, you can cut down level zero ash trees (found in Timberwell Green) and then use the Sawmill (in the Carpenter's Workshop to the south of the village) in order to make planks.
The entire process does not have any level requirements, but you'll need to buy a handsaw from Morauce for 36 silver.
With planks in hand, head back to the ferry and repair it. Once you do this, you are pretty much locked into the following battle with the mutant newt, so only repair and get on the boat if you are ready to proceed.
When the ferry heads out into the water, it will be attacked by the newt. Your goal is to fight it, avoid telegraphed attacks, and repair the boat when the newt is swimming around. The newt is level 15, but here at TheGamer, we took no damage.
This may be a current bug, but even when standing in the attack range, the newt dealt no damage to us. After the newt is defeated, cross the river and gather the fern.
With all three items in hand, head back to the Crystal Clearing and use each one on the Crystal; this will cause it to change colors. Speak with the Dryad after this, and she will direct you to the next quest.
At this point, Nullify the Corruption is done, but to continue forward, you can head all the way to the Barricades, which is found in the southeastern edge of Hopeforest.
