Caves Of Qud: How To Get More Ammo
In Caves of Qud, you will have several different weapon types at your disposal. This ranges from heavy melee weapons to stylish and colorful guns that shoot from a distance. While a melee weapon can be used indefinitely, you'll need ammo if you want to use your ranged weapons.
So, how do you go about getting more ammo? In this guide, we are going to take a look at how you can get more ammo for your ranged weapons. This includes slugs, shotgun shells, and arrows, which are all used in a variety of ammo-based weapons in Caves of Qud.
Ammo Types
There are three main types of ammo that you will primarily deal with, which you can find below.
Ammo |
Ranged Weapon |
---|---|
Lead Slugs | Most Guns (except shotguns) |
Shotgun Shells | Shotguns |
Arrows | Bows |
Ranged Weapon Damage With Ammo
When calculating the damage for a weapon, it depends on the type. For example, all guns have their own stats that don't rely on the shells or slugs that you use. A lead slug is used in a lot of guns, but the actual damage that the slug does depends on what is firing it.
Bows are similar to this, but arrows can have a variety of effects. For example, the Boomrose Arrow will explode on impact dealing unblockable damage. This is independent of the bow that fires it, making the effect tied only to the arrow.
How To Get More Ammo
Like most other items in Caves of Qud, you can find ammo around the world in lootable chests/containers. For example, you may stumble across a chest within some ruins that is filled with arrows for you to grab.
Overall though, the simplest way to get more ammo is to buy it. This can be done from merchants in settlements, as well as NPCs that you find while exploring the world.
Early in the game, we suggest stopping by the merchant in Joppa (if you choose to start here), as they sell a variety of ammo for you to purchase. If you venture to the Six Day Stilt, you can also find merchants that sell ammo. There are also plenty of wandering merchants that may appear from time to time with ammo in stock.
If you see turrets, you can also defeat them and take their ammo.
Buying Ammo From Mafeo
The best NPC to buy ammo from is Mafeo, who is found at Grit Gate. This NPC can be talked to before completing the quest here that opens up the area. Mafeo sells large quantities of ammo; you can buy 1,000 lead slugs at a time if you feel like it.
This will be costly, but all ammo is weightless. Yes, even if you are holding 2,000 arrows, they will not weigh anything. As such, it's a good idea to absolutely stock up on every ammo type that you use.
Mafeo also sells an artifact that can be examined to reveal a recoiler. With this (and an active cell), you can quickly teleport to Grit Gate and buy more ammo.
