The patch before a major update in Honkai: Star Rail historically comes with a pair of powerful characters, at least one of which will play a vital part in the meta of the upcoming content year. Update 2.7 continues that trend, offering one character that helps future-proof one of the current meta setups and another that could help define the 3.0 content year.

That fact will be incredibly important during the 3.0 story arc, which takes place on the planet of Amphoreus because summons are the main mechanic of characters on the Path of Remembrance, the new Path introduced in 3.0.

Summons, or "memosprites" as they're called in Star Rail, have different abilities and play different roles, and can also be affected by main unit effects like Aventurine's shields.

In short, Sunday is designed as not only a new top-tier Support character for units released before 3.0, but he is also likely to be an incredible enabler for many of the characters released during the 3.0 content year, including the Remembrance Path Trailblazer, releasing with the 3.0 update itself.

Pulling for Sunday, then, is a matter of two considerations. The first is getting ahead of a different meta: the Summon meta. Sunday will probably rerun sometime during the 3.0 update period, but like Ruan Mei before 2.0, adding him to your team early can make Amphoreus's progression and characters much more comfortable to play.

Why You Should Pull For Fugue

Honkai: Star Rail - Should You Pull For Fugue Or Sunday In 2.7

Fugue, the reborn or resurrected form of Tingyun, is a Fire Nihility character who bridges the gap between Support and sub-DPS. She's the second Super Break Support unit, acting as a substitute and possible upgrade for Harmony Trailblazer.

As a limited 5-star character, Fugue comes with additional utility not found in the free Trailblazer kit. Rather than needing to use an ability to enable Super Break, as long as Fugue is on the field, all units will deal Super Break damage via the Cloudflame Luster state.

Using Fugue's Skill applies the Foxian Prayer effect to the chosen unit, increasing their Break Effect, enhancing her own Basic Attack, and giving the designated unit a chance to reduce the attacked targets' Defense. Her Ultimate ignores the Weakness type, reducing their Toughness no matter what.

The Fugue Difference

What's nice about Fugue's kit is it turns any unit in the game into a Break character, enabling her to work with more traditional DPS units like Acheron or Dr. Ratio while enhancing units like Firefly and Rappa.

There's also Remembrance Trailblazer to consider. If the new Path for the main character is as good as the one from Penacony, it can take up a spot on new or established teams, removing the Trailblazer from otherwise essential positions.

Fugue remedies that situation while adding additional utility and ease of access to Super Break and Weakness Break, which are not present in the Harmony Trailblazer.

Pulling for Fugue, then, will depend on two different factors. First, do you want to add Super Break capabilities to a wider selection of teams and DPS units? And second, do you want to help future-proof teams from being made obsolete by new mechanics? Fugue helps with both of those.

Pull For Characters You Like

We should also mention that gameplay is not the only consideration when pulling for a character. If you like their aesthetic, and gameplay style regardless of meta or their story, pull them for preferential reasons, not because of possible shifts in endgame content optimization.

Pulling for a character you like also opens up the possibility of seeing that character increase in value over time. Jiaoqiu, for instance, wasn't rated very highly on his release, but as more characters were released, he became a much more desirable choice.

Who you pull for is ultimately up to you, your Stellar Jade supply, and your tolerance for spending real money for more pulls. Most importantly, it depends on how you enjoy playing Honkai: Star Rail, which is yours and yours alone.
