Part One of Loco Motive had you solving some pretty basic puzzles - finding something well-hidden and foiling a cheater's scheme. Part Two, however, gets a bit more complex, and is far longer - the number of puzzles forced upon you is massive in comparison to what you've experienced thus far.
Of course, the big mystery of the game is still as opaque as ever, with no clues as to how relevant Bergmann's clever accounting or Donny's blackmail scheme are. This Part, though, should hopefully shed some light on the situation. If you need any solutions, we have them right here for you.
You'll begin this part with two plot hooks:
Speak to the lady in white, to begin with - her name is Diana, and she'll hand you a blank napkin, saying that it has a message for you. This is a puzzle we'll tackle shortly. For now, though, head on through the train back to Lady Unterwald's quarters to meet up with the doctor.
If you didn't attempt to grab the will from the window in the previous Part, do so now!
Speak to Doctor Hirsch about two things: the missing medical briefcase and the secret society behind the red curtain in the Casino Carriage.
Make sure you talk to him about the secret handshake and get him to promise to explain it to you once you know the current pattern. Then, examine the edge of the rug on the ground to progress.
With this, we have our short-term goals.
Head back to the Casino Carriage and watch passively as someone enters the secret society behind the red curtain - the handshakes happen far quicker than you can see with the naked eye. Examine the curtain and fail the test - it's a required step.
While you're in the Casino Carriage, head to the cashier on the right and hand her your stack of casino chips. This will get you a bag of cash.
Move to the Dining Carriage and speak to the artist. He'll mention that he's available for commissions, but only for the right price. Hand him the bag of cash you just acquired and you'll automatically get a stack of handy sketches of the handshakes required to get into the secret society.
Back in Lady Unterwald's quarters, hand Doctor Hirsch the handshake sketches to get him to teach you the proper phrases required to gain entry to the society. To make it easy, the correct responses rhyme with the prompts.
Head back to the society and pass the doorman's test:
|
Correct Response | ||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
How low will you go? How high will you jump? | Perhaps you'd settle for a simple fist bump? | ||||||||||
You need to climb lightly, be careful not to slip. | I assure you, these palms, they have a strong grip! | ||||||||||
Aren't your eyes open? Are you not wide awake? | If you think I'm still sleeping, you should give me a shake! | ||||||||||
Are you watching closely? Did you see me make my move? | I've watched your dance of digits, and I handedly approve. |
This will gain you access to the secret society. There are a few things to do here:
Head to the Dining Carriage and speak to the bartender. Attempt to order a Rosebud from him, and you'll learn that you need to gather some ingredients yourself. There are only two to find, and they're easily acquired:
Hand both of these ingredients to the bartender, and you'll end up with a non-alcoholic version of Mr. Masson's Rosebud. You'll need two more things now: something to make it stronger and a larger receptacle.
While you're here, pick up the corking device from the bar.
First, return to the Lounge Carriage to find Arista Gudrun and the Gudrun twins. Speak to the twins and pick the dialogue option that says that Lady Unterwald probably thought highly of both twins. They'll begin to argue, causing Arista Gudrun to get up from her chair.
Use this opportunity to steal the lady's hearing horn from the table.
Now, return to Arthur's quarters back in the Sleeper Carriage. In here, examine and then pick up the mouthwash next to the sink.
We can now make our Rosebud!
Now that you're drunk from the Rosebud you made, you'll automatically end up at the secret society after a fun cutscene.
Speak to Mr. Masson here about the briefcase. You'll get the luggage room key.
Leave the room, and you'll sober up. Once you regain control, head back to the Sleeper Carriage and enter the luggage room.
The medical briefcase is the one on the ground to the left - pick it up. We won't be returning it to Doctor Hirsch just yet, however. The briefcase is locked.
This is quite a simple solution, though the logic behind it is baffling. Leave the luggage storage room, and you'll find the Gudrun twins trying to break into Herman's room.
Give the medical briefcase to either twin, and they'll fight over it, eventually breaking the lock on the case. This will get you some Medical Records, which we'll need to use later.
Let's make some progress into the napkin handed to you by Diana! To start, head back to Donny's room and pick up the following:
Head back to the secret society and use the poetry book with the yellow book on the table. This will get you the book on invisibility.
Read the new book to learn of a way to reveal the hidden message on Diana's napkin. You need a heat source - something eminently available in the kitchen!
Enter the kitchen, and you'll learn of the cooks' rodent problem. To gain use of some way to reveal the hidden message, you'll need to deal with the problem.
The first step here is to seal up the various mouse holes you might have Spotted: Local dating-app throughout the train. To do this, use the recorking device on the three mouse holes in the following locations:
Now you need something to bait the mouse with and something to pick it up with, to protect your hands.
Now it's time to catch a mouse! Return to the luggage storage room. Use the cheese on the hole in the fence, walk a little bit away to prompt the mouse to nibble at the cheese, and then quickly use the oven gloves on the mouse to catch it.
This will return you back to the kitchen in triumph! Here, walk to the left and use Diana's napkin on the fancy stovetop. This will reveal her room number, which shows that she's in the leftmost room in the Sleeper Carriage.
In the Sleeper Carriage, slip the napkin underneath Diana's door on the left. In the following cutscene, pick every dialogue option to fill Diana in on what's been happening. Now it's time to crack the safe!
In Diana's quarters, pick up a wire reel from the table and combine it with the recording device in Arthur's inventory. Use the resulting item on the telephone in the Sleeper Carriage hallway to record Lady Unterwald's voice.
Back in Lady Unterwald's quarters, you can use the voice recorder to break the voice lock.
The six-digit number you need is Lady Unterwald's date of birth, which can be found in her Medical Records, which are themselves found within Doctor Hirsch's medical briefcase.
The code varies from game to game - for us, it was 260638.
After breaking open the safe in Lady Unterwald's quarters, a few cutscenes will play in progression. You'll end up in Herman's quarters, faced with the will dangling from the window yet again.
Combine the twisted remains of the wire hanger with Lady Unterwald's cane. Slide open the window to lean out of it, and then use the cane on the will to complete the Part.
