Imagine your boss sends you a huge Word document with numerous graphs, tables, and charts that you need to complete your report. You could go through the document and click and save each image one by one. After the tenth or hundredth image, though, this can get tedious. If only there was a way to extract all images from a Word document in one go.
Thankfully, there is a workaround. It’s possible to save a copy of your Word document as an HTML file, which automatically extracts all the images. Here’s how.
Step 1: Open the Word document you need the images extracted from.
Step 2: Click File on the top left and look for the option on the left-hand side that says Save a Copy.
Step 3: Choose where you want to save the file as usual. Then, next to where it says Word Document (*.docx), click the dropdown arrow at the very right-hand side of the box.
Step 4: Save your Word document as Web Page (*htm, *html). Note: Don’t choose any other web page options as they won’t work in quite the same way.
Step 5: Click Save, then open File Explorer and navigate to the location you just chose to save the new HTML file. Instead of a single file, you’ll see a folder with the same name that you used to save the HTML file.
Step 6: Double-click on the folder to open it. You’ll see that all the images from the Word document are now separate files inside this folder.
Now that you’ve got all the images from inside your Word document, you can move them from this folder to a new one. You can drag and drop them to another location or select them all at once using your mouse or by clicking ctrl and A together. Alternatively, you can click one, then hold the control (ctrl) key and click any others you want to move. When selected, they will be highlighted in light blue.
To quickly copy these images, press ctrl and C together. Then, use File Explorer to find a new location to save your chosen images. When you choose a folder, simply click ctrl and V together to paste the images into that folder.
