Management games are all about growing your business from nothing. While the focus of Planet Coaster 2 is the rides you can build and the new pools, making money is still what makes the world go round. Without money, you're not going to be able to make the rollercoasters of your dreams.
While money can be scarce in a lot of situations, there are plenty of ways to increase your cash reserves. Some require risking a portion of your park's future financial security, while others rely on you being happy with taking advantage of your fee-paying customers. At the end of the day, needs must when it comes to getting the funds for that next big rollercoaster.
Let's get the obvious out of the way first, you can always take out a loan in Planet Coaster 2 if you need more money quickly. We'd only recommend it as a last resort, but it's a good way to improve your park if you're confident you'll be making plenty of money in the future.
You can take out loans in all Career mode scenarios, but you will need to select the ability to do so when setting up a Sandbox park.
Since you have to pay interest on loans, the bank you borrow the money from will take a cut of your sales if you don't pay the loan off early. That means you won't be bringing money in quite as quickly for the following weeks. However, if you're able to build some great rides with the money you get and that increases the money your park earns, then great.
The second option is to increase the prices of your ride tickets, or the price of park entry. For rides, you can set the tickets at any of the following price settings.
|
Ticket price for a ride changes on demand. The more popular the ride, the more expensive a ticket will be. | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Premium | Usually increases the price beyond what is set and what guests will expect to pay. | ||||||||
Custom | Choose the price yourself. | ||||||||
Bargain | Sets the ticket price low to attract more guests. |
If you set the ticket price to Premium, or set it yourself with Custom, you'll be able to charge more and rides will bring in more money. However, the more you charge the more likely guests are to be unhappy and not pay the high price. You need to be sure you balance the price with what's acceptable to visitors.
Finally, you can do the same with the park entry fee. You can increase it as much as you want, but guests will not be happy if it's too high and they also need to pay for ride tickets.
That's where changing your basic income strategy can come into play. Instinctually, you may want to have quests pay for every ride they go on and balance that with the price of your park.
One option that's great is actually more in line with parks in the real world is making all rides free but setting the park entry to full price. In Planet Coaster 2, the full ticket price increases as you have more attractions, making you make more money as you expand.
In our experience, money comes in much faster if you charge for the main park entry ticket instead of each ride individually. You can at least try it and see how your park performs.
Alongside changing how much you charge for entry tickets and access to rides, you can also ensure you're making extra money by charging for Priority and Pool Passes.
You turn on Priority for each ride individually. You don't have to turn it on for all of them, so you can ensure you're charging as much as you can for as little benefit as you can get away with.
You may already have the latter since they're needed for any pool or flume use in any park, but Priority Passes allow you to charge to allow guests to skip queues for individual rides.
This ties into all aspects of making money in Planet Coaster 2. Park Rating determines somewhat how much guests are willing to pay to get in and is calculated from four categories, each out of five.
Attraction Prestige |
Build the best rides you can. |
---|---|
Scenery Rating |
Decorate your park as much as possible. |
Unique Attractions |
Build as many different rides as you can. |
Park Reputation |
Keep your park clean and running smoothly. |
The Part Rating attribute that will often be the lowest is Unique Attractions, especially if you play in Career mode. However, all you need to do to increase it is build more unique rides. So get out there and build!
You need to increase these as much as you can to increase your overall park rating, which will then allow you to charge more for entry and attraction ticket prices.
The final thing you can do if your park is full of rides and pools is lean harder into shops and facilities. To satisfy demand, which is always very high, you'll need a lot of food and drink opportunities.
You can build a lot of different shops, from hot dog stands to places to buy hats. The more variety in what you build the better, so don't just stick to slushie stands throughout the whole park.
You can then increase the prices and charge more than the default to bring in more money and increase overall profits. Again, be careful of guest happiness.
If you're a horrible park owner, you can even charge for the use of the toilets to make a bit more money. Your guests won't be happy though.
