How to Resolve Eclipse ADT v23 Update Issues?

Eclipse Android Development Tools v.23 Update Issue

When updating Eclipse with Android SDK Tools rev. 23, users may encounter an error indicating a discrepancy between the current Android Developer Toolkit (ADT) version and the required version 23.0.0 or above. Additionally, issues with missing ProGuard and other tools may arise.

Google's ADT v23.0.2 Release

Google has released ADT v23.0.2 to address these issues. To resolve the error:

Step 1: Install New Software

  • Open Eclipse and navigate to "Help" → "Install New Software..."

Step 2: Select Android Source

  • Enter the Android source URL "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse" in the "Work with" field.

Step 3: Select ADT v23.0

  • Check the box for "ADT v23.0" under the "Developer Tools" category.

Step 4: Install Remediation Page (if applicable)

  • If Eclipse displays an "Install Remediation Page" due to conflicts with previous versions:

    • Select "Update my installation to be compatible with items being installed" to uninstall the old version and install the new one.

Step 5: Address Installation Failure (if applicable)

  • If installing all packages, including "Android Native Development Tools," fails:

    • Install other packages first, then install "Android Native Development Tools" separately.

Note for Legacy ADT Removal
If there is no "Remediation page," uninstall the ADT plugin manually by navigating to "Help" → "About Eclipse" → "Installation Details" and uninstalling it from there. However, use caution to avoid accidentally uninstalling Eclipse itself.
