Throughout every part of the main story of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, you'll come across locked gates and doors that require a special key. Some of these keys you can find hanging on a hook somewhere, while others might come with a costume you'll use to gain access to certain areas.
Not including keys needed for side quests, there are seven keys to find in the Vatican and surrounding areas. Some you'll obtain through natural progression of the storyline, while others you may have to do a little more digging for. If you're having trouble finding any of the keys in Castel Sant'Angelo or the Vatican, we've got you covered!
In Castel Sant'Angelo, after climbing onto the ramparts, go inside the storage rooms above the chapel. Turn right, go down the stairs, then go straight until you reach a ledge. Use the ledge to drop into the office room below.
In this room you'll find the castle map on the pedestal by the door. Before continuing on, grab the Rampart Key hanging on the wall behind you.
You can use this key to open up the gates on southeast ramparts, which gives you a shortcut from one side of the castle to the other.
At the far end of the eastern castle road, under an arch, go into the open door on your left.
There is a guard inside with his back to you. Sneak up on him to knock him out, then pick up the Knock Out I book on the crate by the floor.
The Guard House key is hanging on the bulletin board on the wall to your left.
This key opens up the guard house on the south side of the castle. The closest entrance is right around the corner from where you got the key.
Exit through the door, turn right, then go up the short staircase on your right. Unlock the door at the top of the stairs to enter the guard house.
Inside the guard house you’ll find De Vito’s Letter, bandages, food, money, and ammo for your revolver.
Even though you'll come across a gate that requires the Blackshirt Key at the Castel Sant'Angelo, you won't be able to find the key until after you progress through the story and meet Gina in southern corner of the Apostolic Palace beside the excavation site.
After the cut scene with Gina is over, slide down the zipline to the balcony below. From here, jump down and take out the three Nazi's. Once it's clear, pickup the Blackshirt uniform on a chair just outside of the tent.
The disguise will include a baton and the Blackshirt key.
The Blackshirt key will not only give you access to that one locked gate at Castel Sant'Angelo, but when you wear the Blackshirt uniform you'll be able to go into that blocked-off area in Belvedere Courtyard, the Blackshirt Barracks, and any other Blackshirt-only locations. Additionally, you can now visit the Underground Boxing Ring in the Vatican Gardens.
The Captain's Key is the last key you'll find and need in Castel Sant'Angelo. The key is in the captain's office above the Courtyard of the Angel.
From the courtyard, which is on the western side of the castle, go up the stairs, then turn right. The key will be hanging on a bulletin board on the far wall.
Use this key to open the black gate at the end of the courtyard so you can progress through the story.
As you follow the story, Antonio will give you a clerical outfit so you can try to blend. Later, he also gives you the Clerical Key. You have to wear the whole disguise in order to use the key anywhere.
With the Clerical Disguise and Key, you can go through any of the Clerical doors. You'll know these for the stained-glass windows on them, and they'll usually lead to chapels or religious libraries.
Following the progression of the story, Antonio asks you to investigate what's below the Tower of Nicholas V. This investigation leads you into a sprawling necropolis underground.
After you complete the Sacred Wounds section, start searching the catacombs beneath the Vatican. The Burial Chamber Key will be on the ground next to a skeleton in one of the rooms.
From where you found the key, go straight, then take a left. Use your whip to swing across the gap in the floor. Once on the other side, go to the end of the room and the Burial Chamber gate will be on your right.
On the western side of the Vatican, near the Vatican Gardens, is the Fountain of Confession. In the courtyard below and to the left of the fountain is a chest that holds the Fountain Gate Key.
Once you have the key, use it to open the gate on your right. This will lead you to the top of the fountain so you can solve the fountain puzzle.
There are at least two more keys to be found in the Vatican: The Jail Cell Key and the Cellar Key, both of which you'll find during the A Savage Discovery side mission.
