Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana is a relatively short game, but that doesn't mean your time with the game has to come to an end just because you've rolled credits. The game has plenty more content waiting for you to experience.
One such aspect of the game is its Time Attack Mode. Owing to Oath in Felghana being a more action-oriented game compared to its JRPG contemporaries, the Time Attack mode feels like a perfect fit for its more frenetic gameplay. Here's how to unlock the Time Attack mode, and everything it entails.
Like many pieces of extra content in Oath in Felghana, Time Attack mode is unlocked by finishing the game. There are no other requirements to this, whether you finish the game on Nightmare or Very Easy. Time Attack mode is your reward for making it past the finish line.
The one caveat to this are the actual difficulty modes of Time Attack. They are tied to your game completion, meaning you can only challenge Time Attack mode with the highest difficulty you have completed the game on. Meaning if you completed the game on Normal but wanted to try Time Attack Mode on Nightmare, you would have to finish the story on Nightmare first.
Time Attack Mode is all about the bosses and nothing else. Outside of the difficulty you completed the main game with, nothing else carries over. Time Attack mode is a no-frills-attached experience. The level, stats, and equipment you are given are relative to what was possible at the time you would have challenged the respective boss during the game.
You can choose to battle the bosses individually, or you can take on the Boss Rush challenge where you fight them all in sequential order. Unlike harsher variants in other games, Oath in Felghana's Time Attack mode does not reset your progress if you are defeated, and lets you continue from the current boss without starting over.
Nothing is retained between bosses either, so don't be afraid to use up any Spirit Necklaces you are provided, or to be reckless and bring your HP down to the wire. It will all be restored by time you reach the next boss.
If you do fall in combat though, the timer does not reset. Instead, the already elapsed time is added on top. So even though there is no material loss in being defeated, it will definitely put a mark on your final time.
However, not all content in the Time Attack mode is a revisit to pre-existing content. While not revealed to you until you actually unlock it, Time Attack mode actually has some secret bosses that are exclusive to the challenge mode.
There are two of these bosses, both with unique requirements to be unlocked. They are as follows:
These bosses function a bit differently from the others in Time Attack Mode. For one, they are stored away in a separate 'Extra' tab, but you also cannot choose the difficulty while battling them. Instead, they are fought at a single unique difficulty setting with Adol equipped with pre-set items. They are also obscenely difficult, more than any other boss in the game.
These bosses are seriously absurd. Berhardt has 9,999 HP. It might take a while to beat him.
For beating these bosses, you do get the reward of some special illustrations, and bragging rights. They are never added to the main Time Attack mode and thus are never part of the boss rush.
