Most fights in Dragon Quest 3 Remake are easy enough, provided you stay within the areas that your party is properly leveled and equipped for. But while that's the case most of the time, sometimes you're going to need to get everything you can out of the characters in your party.
Ensuring your characters in the party are the right personality is going to make a big difference in their performance, especially the higher level they Achieve. Personality types affect how fast each stat progresses when characters level up, and having the wrong personality can make a character significantly less effective.
A Warrior's first priority has to be staying alive; they're there to take the brunt of punishment for their team, especially once they get some of their later abilities that, in essence, allow them to draw aggro from enemies.
Because of this, personalities that prioritize Resilience and Stamina are going to be important, as they make the Warrior more difficult to kill. Aside from that, Warriors are going to be dealing physical damage, making Strength a stat that can significantly increase their damage output.

A Priest is an entirely support-oriented character, and accomplishes this in a couple of different ways. Firstly, a Priest is there to keep allies alive by healing them. Secondly, a Priest can keep enemies from being as effective on their turns in various different ways, by putting them to sleep, debuffing them, etc.
For both of these, Wisdom is the most important stat, as it keeps their Mana upgrading at a faster rate. However, Luck is going to be included as an important secondary attribute, for its ability to keep a Priest from suffering their own turn-preventing debuffs set upon them by enemies.

The name of the game for a Mage is damage. They deal damage primarily through their spell attacks, and that means Wisdom is going to be their primary attribute.
There are two options for stacking Wisdom, one being better for Wisdom primarily, and the other being good for combo Wisdom and Agility, giving them a better spot in the turn order.

Martial Artists are some of the most unique damage-dealers in DQ3 Remake, relying heavily on dealing critical damage with their attacks. They deal physical damage, so their most important stats are going to be a combination of Strength and Luck, the latter of which increases critical chance even further.
That said, a sprinkling of Agility can't do a Martial Artist wrong, either, gaining them an earlier turn in the turn order. The quicker they take their turn, the more likely it is an enemy drops before they do what they were planning to do.

A Sage has, at its core, the best attributes of both a Mage and a Priest. It has access to all the spells from both classes, so it's able to play a hybrid support/damage role.
A Sage is another entirely spell-focused class, making Wisdom the most important attribute for them.
Much like the Priest, Luck can be a good secondary stat for the Sage, to help prevent them from losing out on turns due to enemy debuffs.

The Gadabout does not particularly have its own role; primarily, the idea of this class is to simply not get in the way. A Gadabout does not always do what they're intended to do every turn, and can do their own thing, instead.
But, once a Gadabout hits level 20, they can transition into being a Sage. And so, for the most part, it would be best to gain a personality that's already good for a Sage.
When a Gadabout transitions into being a Sage, their stats are halved. But, that means the stat ratio stays the same, meaning already having a good supply of Wisdom is going to give them a great head start.

The big draw of a Merchant is the extra gold you get at the end of every fight. In terms of performance, they don't bring anything particularly special to the table.
That said, bringing a Merchant is not as big of a detriment to your party as bringing a Gadabout. They can deal some Medium-tier damage through physical attacks and abilities. Primarily, you should be focusing on getting their damage as high as it can get, and ensuring they can survive a couple of hits.

The Thief can be a bit more effective than the Merchant in combat, and while they aren't a top-tier vocation in terms of efficacy, they can perform perfectly adequately when used in the right party lineup.
For a Thief, you're looking for Luck and Strength. They deal primarily physical damage, and can wield weapons that hit multiple enemies at the same time, like a whip or a boomerang. Because of this, gaining a higher critical attack chance is going to severely increase their damage output, because of how many enemies they hit at the same time, rolling those odds more often.

The best personality type for the Hero is going to be very dependent on what role your Hero is generally going to fill. Heroes have access to a wide variety of abilities and spells, making them efficient at both support and damage.
For support, getting the most out of your spells will be paramount, as well as not getting affected by enemy stun effects.

For a Hero that's capable of doing both, you'll want to focus equally on both Wisdom and Strength. This is going to ensure they're capable of contributing in both regards, but makes the personality choice a bit more difficult.
In this case, it would be best to grab a personality that stacks one of those attributes, like Genius or Idealist, and give your Hero seeds of whatever the opposite stat is, to round out the other attribute.
