Marvel Rivals: DOOM Match Mode, Explained
Marvel Rivals has several modes to keep you occupied during your hero and villain-slaying sessions. One of these is the Doom Match, an arcade mode that puts a twist on the classic Free-for-all mode from other games.
If you don't want to worry about objectives or raising your ranked season status for a while, Doom Match is an excellent way to relax with a less intensive mode than the others on offer. However, it is useful to know more about the mode before diving straight in.
Doom Match Mode Explained And How To Win
At its core, Doom Match is a Free-for-all mode with you against 11 other players. You can choose any hero you would like, and the maximum elimination limit before the match ends is 16. There is also a timer of ten minutes which you can keep an eye on.
To win the match, you need to be in the top half of players (in terms of points) when the match ends, meaning you don't have to reach 16 kills to gain a victory in the mode. You will get one point per elimination, and you can bring up the scoreboard to easily see if you are in the top half before the match ends, since it splits the board up into two groups.
Keep in mind that both Dr Strange's Pentagram of Farallah and Invisible Woman's Invisible Boundry abilities are not available to use within this mode.
The map on which Doom Match is set is Sanctum Sanctorum, part of the 'Empire of Eternal Night' collection. It is a map that allows for plenty of strategy, thanks to the overall map design and portal/teleport mechanics contained within.
Tips And Tricks For Doom Match
Making use of teleport areas (purple rift-like substances) and portals in the map will make winning the mode much easier. Since you can fire through portals, it can be great for eliminating enemies when they aren't aware that you are targeting them through one.
Teleport areas, in particular, can be used by interacting with them. A pop-up will appear when you are close and some of these portals are excellent for getting the high ground if you are not a hero like Iron Man.
On the northwest side of the map, outside the main building, you will spot a teleport rift close to a portal. This will take you up to the top of the Sanctum Sanctorum's roof, ideal for long-range heroes looking for a vantage point.
It is also useful to know eliminations are counted as final hits in this mode. You can easily raise your score by engaging in battles where two or more players are already fighting. Picking off enemies by using this method is effective for remaining in the top half of players.
Don't forget about the use of health pick-ups in the Doom Match either, since you will have no healing from others, you should memorise the location of these. A lot of battling takes place in the alleyway on the north side of the map next to the Sanctum, so stay away from this area when low on health.
There is no self-healing at all, unless from one of your hero's abilities, so making sure you are aware of this can sway the match in your favour if you heal with pickups successfully.
The upper floors of the Sanctum with vantage of the ground can be great for getting early hits on enemies before engaging further. A lot of the time, players will sprint into or past an area on the first floor without looking up. It can give you adequate time to make the first move.
Using cover effectively, keeping on the move as much as possible, and never underestimating the benefits of the teleports on this map will have you winning matches consistently in this Free-for-all mode.
Hero Advice
Within the Doom Match, sticking to lower-difficulty (one to two-star) heroes is one of the best strategies unless your go-to is above this star range.
This range is where you will find a selection of excellent heroes for the mode. We highly recommend Luna Snow in particular as an all-rounder for the map. Since she can use the Ice Arts ability for a longer range (and shots don't have to be direct hits), it is very effective to use in the long alleys of the map, then you can quickly skate away when needing to get out of a fight.
Her ultimate, Fate of Both Worlds, is brilliant to use whenever surrounded by enemies or low on health since you become practically invincible against any damage. For this reason, Mantis is another great pick as she has a similar ultimate.
You can also easily freeze approaching enemies with the Absolute Zero ability whenever needed for a quick getaway, or to inflict a frosty finishing blow.
Duelists like Iron Man and Scarlet Witch are another pair which are highly useful for the map Doom Match is played on. As Iron Man, you can take to the skies above the streets/Sanctum roof and rain fire down on enemies fighting below. The mobility of Iron Man comes in handy here too, because you can easily zip away from danger zones through portals while flying.
Scarlet Witch, on the other hand, is great for avoiding damage with her Mystic Projection ability (especially useful in the Sanctum's tight corridors) and, as always, is a powerhouse in terms of damage output when used efficiently.
However, make sure when getting away from enemies with Mystic Projection, if low on health, that you try and head straight for one of the health pickup areas or through a portal while projecting, as you will meet a short end otherwise if followed.
