Conquering Smite 2: Mastering Zeus
Some Smite 2 characters require a feel-out process due to varied playstyles and builds. However, Zeus is a consistently powerful mage whose effectiveness is undeniable, even if his tactics are predictable.
This guide may change as Smite 2 is still in Early Access.
Zeus excels in the Mid or Carry role. In the Mid lane, he's a solo laner, needing to manage 1v1s, jungle ambushes, and lane control. His power allows for significant lane pressure. As a Carry, he's less lane-focused but provides massive late-game damage, becoming a devastating force with proper support. His core function remains consistent: delivering immense damage.
Zeus' passive, Overcharge, significantly boosts his damage. Each damaging ability (including basic attacks) applies Charges (max 3) to enemies, increasing basic attack damage by 20% per Charge. Enemies without god status instantly receive three charges. At three charges, basic attacks deal 60% extra damage.
Chain Lightning arcs between nearby enemies, dealing damage and slowing them (up to six enemies at max level).
How to Use Chain Lightning
Chain Lightning shines against groups (applying Charges to multiple targets) and single targets (due to the slow). Its greatest impact is against enemy groups, potentially clearing minion waves.
Thunderclap unleashes lightning in a radius, damaging enemies and boosting Zeus' attack and movement speed.
When to Use Thunderclap
Thunderclap excels against groups, efficiently eliminating enemies. The attack speed and movement speed buffs are invaluable, enhancing damage and enabling chases or escapes. Use it regularly when mana allows.
Detonate Charge detonates all Charges on enemies, dealing damage (increased by the number of Charges) and stunning fully charged enemies.
When to Use Detonate Charge
Detonate Charge can wipe out enemy groups if Charges are spread effectively. The stun is useful for interrupting enemy actions. The significant damage increase at max Charges makes it a game-changer in team fights.
Lightning Storm summons a damaging lightning storm (five damage ticks over 4.5 seconds). It has a 70-second cooldown.
When to Use Lightning Storm
While avoidable, Lightning Storm's damage is substantial. Use it strategically: to clear minion waves, control enemy positioning (forcing melee Gods out of range or pushing ranged Gods), or, most effectively, to quickly defeat the enemy Titan with coordinated team effort.
