Pokemon TCG Pocket: Dominate with the Infernape ex Deck

The latest Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion, Space-Time Smackdown, introduces shiny new cards and Generation IV Pokemon, including the Sinnoh starters. Infernape ex, the evolved form of Chimchar, stands out as a powerful starter. This guide provides an optimal Infernape ex deck strategy and card list for maximizing its potential.

Infernape ex Deck Strategy & Card List

This Infernape ex deck mirrors the Charizard ex strategy but boasts faster setup, requiring only two Energy for a 140 damage attack. Moltres ex is included to accelerate Energy accumulation and boost offensive capabilities. While other strong basic Fire-types like Magmar or Heatmore could be considered, their inclusion would necessitate reducing Trainer cards.

The core Pokemon lineup is:

  • 2x Chimchar
  • 2x Monferno
  • 2x Infernape ex
  • 2x Moltres ex
  • 1x Magmar
  • 2x Poke Ball
  • 2x Professor’s Research
  • 2x Rocky Helmet
  • 1x Leaf
  • 2x Dawn
  • 2x Pokemon Communication

Gameplay Strategy:

The ideal scenario involves Moltres ex in the active spot while preparing Infernape ex on the bench. Infernape ex's evolution requires two turns at most, allowing for swift deployment. Two main strategies exist:

  1. Double Infernape Focus: If two Chimchar are available, focus on equipping two Energy to each Infernape ex for immediate attacks.

  2. Moltres Support: Manually attach Energy to Moltres ex each turn, utilizing its Inferno Dance attack to transfer Energy to Infernape ex. Excess Energy can be allocated to spare Chimchar or Magmar.

The optimal approach depends on whether you prioritize Moltres ex attacks or an Infernape ex sweep. Two Dawn Supporter cards strongly favor the latter. Any Energy beyond two on Infernape ex is wasted, but Dawn Supporter enables Energy transfer from other Pokemon. With two Dawn cards, Infernape ex can attack three consecutive turns before retreating (unless knocked out).

If the battle prolongs, utilize Moltres ex, Magmar, or a second Infernape ex for attacks. Consider sacrificing less valuable Pokemon like Magmar or unevolved Chimchar/Monferno to protect Moltres ex and preserve Prize Points. This buys time to recharge Infernape ex or Moltres ex for further attacks.

Trainer Card Synergies:

Poke Balls and Professor’s Research ensure crucial card access. Pokemon Communication facilitates Pokemon swaps, particularly for evolution purposes. Leaf Supporter enables Moltres ex retreat without Energy loss. Finally, Rocky Helmet inflicts 20 damage on attacking Pokemon, mirroring Druddigon's Rough Skin ability, weakening opponents before or after Infernape ex attacks. This is particularly useful against powerful ex Pokemon.
