The magic of The Sims 2 lies in the Create A Sim (CAS) mode, where you craft the perfect virtual companions. Unleash your creativity – design friends, strangers, or even your favorite fictional characters, and watch their stories unfold!

The Sims 2: Guide To Create A Sim

This guide details every CAS option, plus how to revisit the mode and tweak your Sims' appearances later. Let's start designing!

Creating a Family

Upon entering a neighborhood, click the multi-person icon. Then, select the plus ( ) icon beside the family list to access CAS. You create one family at a time.

Remember: all household members share the same last name (except in the University expansion, where a shared household name replaces surnames). Begin by selecting the profile-plus icon (far left) to add Sims, dogs, or cats!

Step 1: Name, Age, Gender, Appearance

First, choose a name and age group. At least one adult or elder is required per household. Select the gender below the name field.

Note: Unlike Sims 4, only two gender options are available with limited customization. You can also set skin tone and fitness level (fit or fat). While only four base skin tones exist, custom content expands choices, and cheats unlock hidden options like alien, zombie, and mannequin skins.

To enable cheats, use Ctrl Shift C in the neighborhood menu, type boolprop testingcheatsenabled true, then press Enter. In CAS, use Shift N for additional options. For faster creation, randomize or select a pre-made Sim. You can also add a bio using the note option at the bottom.

Step 2: Head Shapes

The "2" bubble offers six pre-made head shapes. These vary based on gender and skin tone, so experiment!

Step 3: Hairstyle and Facial Features

Customize hair and facial features. Unless you choose "hair per outfit" (left-hand option), one hairstyle applies to all outfits. Maxis hairstyles come in four colors (black, brown, blonde, red), plus custom content options. Edit individual facial features using the highlighted areas and sliders. Five eye colors are available: brown, light blue, dark blue, grey, and green. Overusing sliders might cause rare game instability.

Step 4: Makeup, Facial Hair, and Accessories

Apply blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and lipstick. Add jewelry via the gem icon, and full-face makeup is under the clown makeup icon. Glasses and eyebrow options are also available. Male Sims can choose from various facial hair styles.

Step 5: Outfits

Seven outfit categories let you design seven distinct looks: Everyday, Formal, Undies, PJs, Swimwear, Athletic, and Outerwear.

Step 6: Personality and Aspiration

Define your Sim's personality using aspirations and attraction preferences. Six aspirations are available: Pleasure, Family, Romance, Knowledge, Fortune, and Popularity. Assign 25 points to personality traits (see table below) and select two turn-ons and one turn-off from a list of characteristics.

Personality Trait Description
Sloppy / Neat Sloppy Sims tolerate mess; neat Sims enjoy cleaning.
Shy / Outgoing Shy Sims take time to warm up; outgoing Sims are expressive (sometimes overly so).
Lazy / Active Lazy Sims are relaxed; active Sims are always on the go.
Serious / Playful Serious Sims are logical; playful Sims are silly and entertaining.
Grouchy / Nice Grouchy Sims are poor losers and teasers; nice Sims are kind and compassionate.

After defining your Sim's personality, it's time to choose their turn-ons and turn-offs – traits that influence romantic attraction. You can select two turn-ons and one turn-off from a comprehensive list.
