The best choice for Android tablets: Samsung Galaxy Tab series
I love Android tablets and sometimes even replace my PC. But unlike mobile phones, Android tablets have few competitors. Over the years, one fact has been consistent: Samsung tablets are the best products you can buy.
Samsung offers tablets at all prices
I fell in love with Android tablets when companies rush to release Android tablets. Today, many years later, Samsung is still the only company that devotes itself to the tablet field and offers products at all prices.
This is very important. Take Google as an example, it only offers one tablet, the $400 Pixel tablet. This price is too expensive for my child's tablet, but for me, it's not good enough to use as a workhorse. The end result is that I wouldn't buy it at all.
Samsung offers a wide range of options from the high-end Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab S10 Ultra (which features comparable to flagship phones) to the Galaxy Tab A9 (I bought it for my son and is perfect for kids).
They also come in multiple sizes
The Galaxy A9 is an 11-inch tablet. If you like this size, you can also find more high-end 11-inch options like the Galaxy Tab S9 and S9 FE.
The Galaxy S9's starting size has increased to 12.4 inches. The same goes for the S10 (no basic Galaxy Tab S10). The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is up to 14.6 inches in size.
I personally prefer the 12.4-inch size. I have never liked 15-inch laptops, and such a large tablet is only slightly more portable. However, I can totally understand the appeal of using the Tab S10 Ultra as a small, mobile TV because it has a stunning display.
Where is a smaller tablet? Samsung has also offered this type of product in the past, but there are currently no iPad Mini-sized products. This is probably because Samsung offers a book-style folding phone like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which has a 7.6-inch screen size. Although the price is completely different, any desire for a small tablet disappeared after I owned this phone. My phone is enough.
And it's the only ultra-high-end tablet (in the United States)
High-end tablets are a niche market. Many people would rather spend $1,000 on a laptop than a tablet because the former provides a more flexible operating system.
But PCs and tablets are different things. I personally prefer tablets. If I want to buy one, why does the size factor limit the specifications and the quality of the material? Samsung is the only company offering ultra-high-end tablets like the Galaxy S10 Ultra.
In high-end tablets, competition is scarce but is growing. The OnePlus Pad 2 is the best cost-effective alternative to the Galaxy Tab S10, offering similar specs for half the price. However, you can expect some compromise, in which case, the display. OnePlus uses an LCD panel instead of Samsung's AMOLED.
Lenovo released the Yoga Tab Plus at CES 2025, which is priced in between. It also offers similar specifications, but uses an LCD display.
It feels like using a PC
The first time I tried replacing a PC with a tablet, it was a little paradigm shift. Tablets have traditionally been more like large phones than laptops. Well, times have changed.
Samsung tablets now offer a taskbar that makes them feel more like Windows PCs, or rather Chromebooks. Samsung devices also allow you to manage applications in floating windows like you do on your PC, even on your phone. With Samsung DeX, you can make the experience feel more like a laptop.
I work full-time on my phone and I am writing these texts using Samsung DeX now. If you need specific desktop software, it won't replace Windows, but the Android application ecosystem is mature enough to get many of us done. Between Obsidian, Samsung Notes and MobiOffice, I have everything I need to manage documents and write web content.
In addition, you can get the best built-in application
Samsung not only provides the most desktop-like experience, but also has the best pre-installed apps. It's easy to think of these software as duplicate and bloatware, but I personally think Google's apps are more likely to bloat. Samsung's tools are exactly what I want.
Samsung Notes is my preferred digital notes application, which also opens PDFs without having to search for a document viewer in the Play Store. You can sign the PDF in your notes, export it back to the PDF, and email the file back to the sender. You can write a document and export it as a DOCX file. If Samsung Notes allow me to change the font and display the word count, I hardly need an Obsidian or a separate word processor.
Samsung Gallery is my favorite way to view pictures saved directly to your device. It does a great job of organizing my photos and gives me the option to create an album of the desired images and hide unwanted images. Samsung My files are very well-functional and I find it faster to use than the file manager on an older laptop. I'm now listening to my downloaded MP3 using Samsung Music. I can keep talking, but you get it. Unlike Google, none of these applications require an account or cloud connection.
Most importantly, those updates
Samsung's biggest advantage over its competitors is not specifications or manufacturing quality, or even applications. The truth is, Samsung supports its tablets with years of updates. If you buy the Galaxy S10, you'll get a seven-year update, just like buying the company's high-end phone.
Even if you buy the cheapest Samsung tablet A9, you can expect an update for at least three years. In short, if you buy the cheapest Samsung tablet from Best Buy today, you will end up with Android 15. If you buy Lenovo’s cheapest tablet, you can’t say that.
To illustrate this point: Lenovo flagship Yoga Tab Plus is available for Android 15 for three months before it was released on Android 14. This tablet became outdated as soon as it was launched.

I'm very happy to see OnePlus and Lenovo offer more high-end tablets. Android benefits from its diversity, and Samsung has been the only company that has really worked hard for years, which is not a good thing. With three years of updates, the OnePlus Pad 2 is by no means a bad buying option. If anything, it can be said that it is the most cost-effective Android tablet you can buy right now.
However, the fact remains that Samsung hardware is the easiest to recommend. Samsung offers a complete package of high-quality hardware with minimal compromise, best software and longest support life. You may need to pay a little extra for Samsung’s tablet, but longer life means you can save money in the long run.
