Microsoft Unveils New Surface Pro and Laptop for Business
Microsoft has announced the Surface Pro 11th Edition and Surface Laptop 7th Edition for Business, both featuring Intel x86 processors for enhanced software compatibility. These devices offer significant improvements in repairability and component replacement, aligning with Microsoft's commitment to sustainable design.
The Surface Pro 11 boasts support for up to 60W charging via USB-C or Surface Connect, configurable RAM (16-32GB) and SSD storage (256GB-1TB), and compatibility with detachable keyboards and the Surface Slim Pen 2nd Edition. Noteworthy is the absence of a headphone jack.
The Surface Laptop 7th Edition for Business mirrors its consumer counterpart released in 2024, offering a 120Hz refresh rate, Windows 11 with enhanced security features (Microsoft Pluton), and a 1080p webcam. It comes in 13.8-inch (2304x1536) and 15-inch (2496x1664) screen sizes. The larger model includes a microSD card reader, a larger battery, and (in select models and markets) a smart card reader. A 5G-enabled version is slated for release later in 2025. Connectivity options include two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB-A 3.2 port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Surface Connect port, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4.
Both devices are Copilot PCs, incorporating Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to power features such as real-time subtitles with translation, webcam background blur, local AI image generation, and the upcoming Recall history function. Dedicated Copilot keys are integrated into the keyboards.
Key replaceable components in the Surface Pro include the display module, battery, motherboard, cameras, kickstand, enclosure, and more. While RAM remains non-upgradable, the SSD is user-replaceable.
The Surface Laptop 7th Edition for Business and Surface Pro 11th Edition for Business will be available from February 18th, 2025, via Microsoft's online store.
