Henry's next mission after concluding business in Nebakov involves interrogating a captured bandit in Trosky Castle's dungeon – the same location where Hans was held during the "Necessary Evil" quest.
First, discuss the interrogation plan with Capon. Despite his bravado with Lord von Bergow, neither Hans nor Henry are enthusiastic about torture. However, they must proceed.
Once the conversation ends, equip your highest charisma outfit (mine reached 22 with jewelry). Follow Hans to the dungeon cellars and the torture chamber. Interact with the door handle to begin the interrogation. Note that choices are often time-sensitive, but you can pause the game.
This quest is significantly easier if you discovered the bandits' plan during the "Back in the Saddle" quest in Nebakov. If needed, load a previous save to replay that section.
Without prior knowledge, rely on intimidation. My outfit provided 15 intimidation, sufficient to extract all information.
Interrogating the Prisoner:
The prisoner initially displays defiance. Identify yourselves as Henry and Hans, adopting a initially conciliatory approach. Examine the tongs on the barrel.
Ask about the leader. If you know the plan from Nebakov, choose the options mentioning this knowledge ("we already know that anyway," and referencing "Captain"). Otherwise, attempt intimidation or use the tools (reducing your reputation with Hans).
This will elicit the leader's name: Jan.
Next, inquire about the bandits' hideout (even if you already know).
Then, focus on your personal vendetta, asking about Istvan Toth. Use charisma and knowledge (20 charisma worked for me), or resort to torture. Confirming Toth's presence is sufficient; avoid unnecessary brutality to maintain Hans' respect.
Ask for more information about the leader. If intimidation fails, use torture. The prisoner reveals the leader is a nobleman claiming to care for the people.
Inquire about the militia's local support. Intimidation (16 worked for me) or torture will reveal Olda, the younger Lord Semine, as the supporter.
Finally, ask about your ambush. You can choose to mete out further punishment, but there's no additional information to gain. End the interrogation to avoid damaging your relationship with Hans.
Should you tell von Bergow about Semine?
Telling von Bergow about Semine forces you to choose between Lord Semine and Hashek, resulting in Semine Manor's destruction. Choosing Semine leads to Hashek's death and necessitates lying to von Bergow. Choosing Hashek results in the deaths of Gnarly, Agnes, and others.
Lying to von Bergow concludes the quest, sparing Semine Manor and its inhabitants. This is arguably the "good" route, protecting innocent allies. However, revealing Semine's involvement creates a more dramatic, morally complex narrative.
Revealing Semine's involvement leads to a forced choice between siding with Semine's traitors or the Burgrave, resulting in Semine Manor's destruction regardless of your choice.
The quest progresses to a meeting of vassals to discuss the Nebakov assault. Remember, your mission is to broker a deal with von Bergow, so acting against him has consequences. However, Trosky Castle's harsh treatment might justify secrecy.
