Use your voice to control your Xbox! While gamepads and keyboards remain options, voice commands offer a hands-free way to navigate menus and launch apps. This requires either Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (available for Android and iOS).

Control your Xbox by using your voice

Setting up Voice Control:

Xbox consoles since 2013 (Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S) support voice control. Navigate to Settings > Devices & connections > Digital assistants, and enable digital assistants. Then, link your Microsoft account within either the Alexa or Google Home app. You can use both assistants simultaneously if desired. Note: you're speaking to Alexa or Google Assistant, which then controls the Xbox. A smart speaker can also be used if linked to the same account. Google Assistant offers an on-screen Xbox remote control within the Google Home app.

Using Voice Commands:

Commands begin with "Alexa..." or "Hey Google...", followed by "Xbox" and your instruction.

  • Power: "Turn Xbox on" (console must be in Sleep mode) or "Turn Xbox off".
  • App/Game Launch: "Open [app or game] on Xbox".
  • Capture: "Tell Xbox to take a screenshot" or "Tell Xbox to record that".
  • Streaming: "Tell Xbox to start broadcasting" or "Tell Xbox to stop broadcasting".
  • Media Control: "Pause Xbox," "Play Xbox," "Volume up on Xbox," "Volume down on Xbox".
  • Social: Check Microsoft's official command list for comprehensive social features (friend status, messaging, online status – commands vary between assistants).

Enjoy the convenience of hands-free Xbox control!
