Your phone's lock screen is a crucial security feature, protecting your personal data. However, several shortcuts allow quick access to essential functions without unlocking.

Access Your Digital Assistant:

Both Android (Google Assistant) and iOS (Siri) offer lock screen access, but require initial setup.

  • Android: In the Google Assistant app, navigate to Settings > Assistant > Phone and enable "Access with Voice Match." Voice training may be needed. Then, use "Hey Google" or "Okay Google" on the lock screen.
  • iOS: In Settings > Face ID & Passcode, ensure Siri is enabled under "Allow access when locked." Use "Hey Siri" or a long press of the power button.

Note: Some features, like photo access, remain locked until the phone is unlocked.

Take a Photo:

Quickly capture images without unlocking:

  • Android: Double-tap the power button.
  • iOS: Swipe left on the lock screen.

Photo gallery access requires unlocking.

Control the Flashlight (iPhone Only):

Press and hold the flashlight button (bottom left) on the lock screen to toggle it on or off.

Quickly adjust key settings:

  • Android: Drag down from the top of the screen to access Quick Settings.
  • iOS: Drag down from the top right to access Control Center.

Both offer toggles for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode, flashlight, Do Not Disturb, media controls, and brightness. Customization options are available in the respective settings menus. iOS users can disable Control Center lock screen access in Settings > Face ID & Passcode.

View Today View (iOS Only):

Swipe right on the lock screen to view your Today View widgets (weather, calendar, etc.). App launching requires unlocking. Lock screen access can be disabled in Settings > Face ID & Passcode. Widget customization is done from the unlocked Today View.

App Information Widgets:

Android displays widgets from active apps (e.g., music playback controls) on the lock screen. Many apps offer customizable lock screen widgets for information like battery status or weather.

Make an Emergency Call:

In emergencies, bypass unlocking:

  • Android/iOS: Swipe up from the bottom, then tap "Emergency."
  • Android: Alternatively, press and hold the power button, then tap "Emergency."
  • iPhone: Press and hold the power and volume up buttons, then swipe right on "Emergency SOS" for automatic dialing.
