How to make your Apple Watch battery last longer

The Apple Watch 8 has a battery life of about 18 hours, and for severe users, it may be necessary to look for a power outlet before the end of the day.

The new Apple Watch Ultra has a battery life of up to 36 hours, twice the former. But the device was designed to be aimed at outdoor activities, and if you stay away from the civilized world for several days, it may still be difficult to keep the watch powered continuously.

No matter which model you have, there are a variety of ways to extend the charging interval of your Apple Watch. Try some of the following methods and you will find that your smartwatch is still full of battery when you need it most.

Low power consumption mode

The new low-power mode added to watchOS 9 works the same way as the low-power mode of iPhone and iPad. It disables certain features to save power, such as always displaying screens, heart rate notifications, background heart rate and blood oxygen measurements, and workout reminders.

In this mode, the Apple Watch also turns off Wi-Fi and cellular connections when there is no iPhone nearby, as well as block incoming calls and notifications. So Apple says it may take longer to make calls, background apps will refresh less frequently, and complex features (widgets on the watch face) will be updated less frequently. Additionally, Siri may be slower and you will notice that the animation and scrolling may not be as smooth as before.

To enable low power mode, touch and hold the bottom of the Apple Watch screen to bring up the Control Center, and swipe up. Click the battery percentage icon and turn on the Low Power Mode switch. You can also enable it in Settings on your watch by clicking Battery. When enabled, you can choose to enable this mode indefinitely, or choose to enable one, two or three days. When Low Power Mode is enabled, a yellow circle appears at the top of the screen.

Another option is to enable low power mode every time you start your workout. In the Settings app on your smartwatch, scroll down to the Workout option and turn on the low power mode switch. Don't worry: Your device will still measure key metrics such as heart rate and pace.

Manually adjust settings

If the low-power mode is too strict for you (or not strict enough), you can manually adjust the settings on your Apple Watch instead. For example, you can turn off the Always Display screen by yourself: In the Settings app on the watch, click Show and Brightness, and then turn Always on

. You can dim the screen with the slider, saving more power.

Other ways to reduce display power consumption is to switch to a darker watch face and limit the number of complex features to use. Not only does this mean that fewer pixels will light up, but there will be less background information that the wearable needs to update. Touch and hold the current watch face to change the watch face.

Disable the wrist lift wake-up feature also helps to extend battery life. This way, when you scratch your ears, for example, the dial won't light up, but only when you really need it. This feature is located on the same Display and Brightness screen in the watch's "Settings", just turn off the Lift your wrist to wake up the option.

Stopping the Apple Watch from always listening to your "Hey Siri" voice commands can also reduce battery pressure. Go to Settings on your smartwatch, select Siri, and then disable the listen for "Hey Siri" option. You can also disable the lift the talk function to save more power.

Manage your application

The way you use the Apple Watch will also affect battery life. If you really want to maximize charging intervals, try to minimize making calls from your wrist and streaming audio to your watch, and don't use the device for tasks that require a lot of resources, such as direction-by-turn navigation. The hands-free call feature also needs to be avoided as it uses speakers and microphones.

Reducing the number of notifications sent to your phone can also help. This reduces the number of backstage checks the watch must perform and the sound that the watch must beep and vibrate. In the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, click Notifications and first close the reminder of the app you don't need to receive any reminders.

You can also use the trick of managing your smartphone’s battery life, which is to enable Do Not Disturb mode on your watch for a period of time. This blocks all notifications, stops the watch from constantly checking notifications, and reduces the buzz and prompt sounds that the device must be powered. Touch and hold the bottom of the Apple Watch screen, then when the Control Center appears, swipe up and tap Do not disturb mode.

About the app, you can also tell the Apple Watch not to refresh the apps in the background, so they will only update when they actually open. In the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, click General: You can turn off the background app refresh option completely, or use the switch to disable the background app refresh for each app .
