After completing the main storyline in Monster Hunter Wilds, a plethora of side quests become available. One early quest, given by Kanya at the Plains Base Camp, involves fishing for a Goldenfish. While the name suggests rarity, these fish are surprisingly easy to catch in the Plains using Kanya's provided lure.

To find a Goldenfish:

First, travel to the Plains biome (likely already done if you're talking to Kanya).

Head to the Groundwater Vein Pop-Up Camp (Area 14). A small pond with large fish is directly in front of the camp.

Equip your fishing rod and ensure you're using the Golden Bughead Lure (provided by Kanya). (To change lures, hold 'LB' then press 'Y' and 'A' to cycle through options.)

Cast your line, wait for a bite, and reel it in. Using the correct lure guarantees a quick Goldenfish catch.

Return the Goldenfish to Kanya to finish the quest and unlock the "Catch a Gravid Bowfin" side mission.
