Monster Hunter Wilds: A Guide to Monster Capture

Monster Hunter Wilds focuses on hunting and slaying monsters, rewarding players with materials and increased Hunter Rank. However, capturing monsters offers unique advantages: faster hunts and access to rare materials. This guide explains how to successfully capture monsters.

To capture a monster, preparation is key. Bring at least one Pitfall Trap, one Shock Trap, and several Tranquilizer Bombs. These are crafted at your Tent, but Trap Tools must first be purchased from the Provisions Stockpile at any Base Camp.

Consult the Field Guide before hunting. It details each monster's weaknesses and effective trap types. Note that not all traps work on all monsters; for example, Pitfall Traps are ineffective against the Jin Dahaad, which requires Shock Traps.

Once prepared, hunt the monster until it's weakened. Weakened monsters limp between areas or exhibit erratic flight patterns.

When weakened, quickly place a trap (Pitfall or Shock, depending on the monster) near the monster and lure it into the trap. A stunned monster can have the trap placed directly beneath it.

Immediately after trapping, throw Tranquilizer Bombs. One or two usually suffice to put the monster to sleep, completing the capture. While you can't carve the captured monster, you'll receive valuable materials and other rewards.
