Samsung Finally Made a Proper PCIe 5.0 SSD

Samsung 9100 PRO PCIe 5.0 SSD: Speed and Capacity Redefined

The Samsung 9100 PRO SSD boasts impressive performance improvements over its predecessors. Sequential read speeds reach up to 14,800 MB/s, and write speeds hit 13,400 MB/s—double the speed of previous generations. Random read/write speeds are also significantly enhanced, achieving up to 2,200K/2,600K IOPS. These advancements translate to dramatically faster loading times for large files, applications, and games.

Power efficiency is another key feature. The 9100 PRO utilizes a new 5nm controller, resulting in up to 49% lower power consumption compared to its predecessor. A heatsink option is also available, particularly beneficial for higher-capacity models.

Samsung is initially launching the 9100 PRO (with and without heatsink) in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities this March, starting at $199.99 and $219.99 respectively for the 1TB versions. While PCIe 4.0 drives remain excellent performers, the 9100 PRO represents the pinnacle of current SSD speed. An 8TB model is planned for later this year.
