Catching a Whopper in Monster Hunter Wilds

To catch a Whopper, head to the large lake in Scarlet Forest, Area 17. You'll likely encounter fishing Wudwud and, with a bit of luck, some sizable fish.

A Whopper isn't a specific species but refers to large fish, including Gastronome Tuna (a large, blue fish) and Gajau (a larger green fish with orange spines).

Equip your Fishing Rod and a suitable lure for large fish:

• Tuff Joint Bait: Effective for fast, large fish like Gastronome Tuna.
• Duster Rig: Ideal for fish inhabiting dark or muddy areas, like Gajau.

Once you've hooked a Whopper, it will struggle. Use the left stick (LS) to follow the fish's movements. Failing to do so increases line tension and risks losing your catch. When the fish tires and struggles less, use the LS to slowly reel it in with an up and down motion.

Whoppers may also leap. To prevent this, use the LS to follow its leap and press the right trigger (RT) to pull it back. Failing to control a leaping fish increases line tension. Successfully managing a leap quickly tires the fish, making it easier to reel in.
