Avowed's "Heart of Valor" side quest: A detailed walkthrough

For players tackling Avowed on Normal difficulty or higher, or simply those who enjoy thorough exploration, side quests offer invaluable rewards. These quests not only lead to hidden areas containing unique items but also provide substantial EXP, helping you keep pace with enemy levels. The "Heart of Valor" quest, accessible upon entering Shatterscarp's Thirdborn city, is a prime example.

Initiating the Quest

Speak with Chiko, located on the left path after entering the city. She'll explain the quest's objective.

Accessing the Sand Sea Ruins

After accepting the quest, find Keipo in a small house within the alley to the left of Chiko's location. He'll reveal the location of the Heart of the Leviathan – hidden within the Sand Sea Ruins. The main entrance is blocked; however, a path to the left leads to a ladder. Use parkour to reach the top, then jump down the hole to access the ruins and open the barred door. Note: A Shatterscarp Woedica totem fragment can be obtained by stopping midway during this jump.

Navigating the Sand Sea Ruins

Inside the ruins, you'll encounter a room with two levers. Avoid the first lever—it triggers a damaging trap. Activate the second lever to summon an elevator leading downwards.

In the lower section, locate a breakable wall beneath the platform where you landed. Destroy this wall to access a generator. Activate it using Giatta's ability, an electric weapon, or the Electric Lily Seed. This will initiate a battle, and some structures will become unstable.

After defeating the enemies, use the newly unstable structures to cross to the other side. You can either navigate more traps or take a shortcut by jumping onto platforms to the left, leading to another breakable wall and more enemies.

Continue forward, overcoming obstacles and enemies (including a bear), until you reach a door opened by a nearby wheel. The Heart of the Leviathan awaits in the next room. Retrieving it unlocks an exit.

However, exploration isn't over! Umpara's Promise accessory is also located in this area.

A hidden door behind the heart's pedestal (on the left small pillar) contains a journal revealing Keipo's deception. Return to Chiko in Thirdborn to continue the quest.

Choosing the Heart's Fate

Upon returning, you face a choice:

• Give the heart to Keipo (he plans to consume the poison within).
• Give the heart to Tira Nui Hajime outside Keipo's house (rewards extra coins).
• Keep the heart as a trinket (increases attack damage but drains health).

Regardless of your choice, you'll receive the Stormdancer's Scale, Gloves, Boots, and Ring from Chiko.
