Longvinter may be a researcher’s paradise, but even the most dedicated scientist won’t get far without energy. Whether you're braving the cold, chopping trees, or just taking a scenic walk, every action drains your reserves. And when that energy hits zero? Let’s just say you’ll be making an unscheduled trip back to a respawn point.

Longvinter: Energy, Explained

But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to stay fueled and ready for your next discovery. In this guide, we’ll break down how energy works, what drains it, and, most importantly, how to restore it before you end up as just another cautionary tale around the campfire. Stay sharp, stay warm, and let’s keep that expedition going!

What Is Energy?

Longvinter: Energy, Explained

Energy represents your health and determines how much damage you can withstand before dying. It depletes in three main ways: direct injuries, ongoing constraints, and physical activities.

  • Injuries immediately subtract a percentage of you energy
  • Constraints, such as exposure to cold or fire, cause gradual energy depletion.
  • Participating in activities, such as walking, fishing, or cutting down trees.

A flashing red energy UI indicates low energy, and when affected by cold, an additional indicator appears above the energy UI.

How Do I Restore Energy?

Longvinter: Energy, Explained

You can regain lost energy by consuming food and other items or by standing near a Fire.

Consumables are the most effective method, with higher-quality items providing greater energy recovery. Alternatively, standing by a Fire, such as a Campfire, allows for passive energy regeneration, though the effectiveness depends on the number of fires present and any active Constraints.

You can use a Heat Pack, found by looting, to stop mass energy loss while in snowy biomes.

What Happens If I Lose All Energy?

When your energy reaches zero, death occurs. Upon dying, you drop all equipped items, ammo, and inventory, but retain your currency. Despite losing items, progress towards the Compendium and Achievements remains intact. After death, you can choose a respawn point, which may include docks or houses. If you previously accessed a house with an Entry code, that location becomes available as a respawn option.
