Apple TV show is bought by another streamer for the first time

Apple TV's series Suspicion became the first original series sold to other broadcasters, with ITVX in the UK gaining playback rights in its UK area.

Apple TV has been working to expand its audience, whether it is on a plane, subscribed through Canal in France, or using Android. This is the first time that a single episode has been sold to other streaming platforms.

According to the British industry magazine Broadcast, ITVX purchased "Questions" from Apple TV through international sales publisher Fifth Season. If the news is true, i.e. buy directly from Apple TV, this would be the first such deal, indicating that Apple TV is now promoting its episodes internationally.

However, although "Quick Cloud" is an Apple TV series, the reason for its sale may be its source as an existing work. "Quick Cloud" was commissioned by Apple TV, but it is adapted from the Israeli drama "False Flag".

Therefore, the agreement to make an English remake on Apple TV may not be a complete buyout. It may contain the right to resell the series in what is called the "second window."

However, Apple TV usually tries to fully own the series it commissioned. For example, it is the only streaming platform willing to fully fund the high-budget series Pachinko instead of sharing the cost with other studios.

Apple TV is the first streaming platform to win the Oscar for Best Picture, but the award-winning film "CODA" was acquired rather than commissioned. Apple TV reportedly spent millions of dollars to negotiate a global copyright for the video, but failed in some regions.

Similar copyright negotiations may be the reason for the release of limited edition Blu-ray discs in series such as Severance and For All Mankind.

Keshet UK, the production company of Apple TV, ITVX or "Questions" has not announced when the series will be available on the UK streaming platform. But at the time of writing, "Questions" is still airing on Apple TV in the UK.

The eight-episode series was originally scheduled to be renewed, but Apple TV canceled its renewal in 2023. The original Israeli series aired for three seasons.
